You’ve been training for this mission your whole life. The moment they pinned those pilot’s wings on your chest your heart nearly burst with joy. Imagine, you commander of your own airship, your hand on the stick, your eyes seeing through the dark night to the dangers lying in wait. It’s been a long wait from that moment to this. Sure, there have been plenty of training missions but this this is the real thing.

The intercom crackles pulling you out of your reverie. It’s time to head out, you listen to last minute instructions, glance back at your co-pilot as she fidgets with her shoulder harness, a nervous habit even on a training mission, but you’ve no doubt that when water begins to boil her steely cool will kick in and she will be all business, deadly business. As gunners go, there is none better on any ship in the fleet.

She looks up, catches your glance and grins. Thumbs up, time to put power to those lazily spinning blades and rise into pre-dawn darkness. It’s just another training mission, just another ride on your favorite horse, except for one small detail – this time the enemy will fire back.
