Description

Been looking for a new word search challenge?

Instead of yet another "letters dropping in a rectangular grid" approach, WordsBySix offers a fresh take! As words are played, the remaining letters spiral inwardly along a hex grid to generate many new possibilities.

Higher levels offer challenging tile badges to test your solving skills!

What's New in Version 1.3

Got quite a laundry list for you. Do us both a favor and please read it BEFORE you download the update and then rag on it because stuff changed. That's what updates are SUPPOSED to do! Geez ... the update is free anyway:-)

+ iOS7 look ... yup, the background patterns are gone, the button borders vanished and the tile font has gone on a diet. For those of you who have not yet embraced this new look, there is a "RETRO" theme to still use the old hefty tile font and a familiar color scheme ... backgrounds are flat and the buttons are still borderless though:-) Speaking of themes, there are now four instead of just two! A couple are pretty tame (read "easy on the eyes"), but there is a wild one in the mix as well. Lastly, it seems there's an unwritten rule that updating an existing app for iOS7 means you also need a spiffy new minimalist app icon ... it's growing on me.

+ The C/V (consonant/vowel) ratio display is now DYNAMIC ... you can see what the ratio will be AFTER a word is played BEFORE you play it!

+ Rethought the whole navigation scheme ... rolled the settings in with the game launch panel. Result is no more jumping through hoops just to change the volume level. The checkmark icon has morphed ala iOS7 into a right-pointing arrow. To close a panel, instead of the clunky "X" button, there is an equally elegant left pointing arrow.

+ Replaced the super ugly Game Center icon used to access the leaderboards with a simple text button named, surprisingly enough, "Leaderboards".

+ Noodled a bunch on making the tile grid easier to manipulate when playing on an iPhone/iPod Touch. Unfortunately, those tiles were already as big as they could be and still squooze all 86 of them on the screen. First improvement was to disable the option of swiping out a word on these smaller screens. In retrospect, I'm not sure that was ever a practical approach (read "owning up to a bad design decision"), so tapping out words is now the only way to go on the iPhone/iPod touch. Those playing on an iPad can continue swiping to their hearts content! A second part of this also included rethinking how a word was played once you had it spelled. In previous versions, you could either tap the green circle over the last tile in the word -OR- tap the spelled out word above the tile grid. Not so bad on an iPad, but bigger touch targets are always easier to hit. Starting now, to play a word, you must tap the spelled out word above the grid. For consistency, this applies to ALL devices. Should help eliminate mistakenly playing a word when you're just trying to add another letter to it. It's like getting an additional undo!

+ Finally, let's face it ... not having a "U" after a "Q" makes it pretty darn hard. The "Auto Q=>QU" option is no longer an option ... it's just the way it is now.

Hope you find this update an improvement! Shoot me an Email at [email protected] with feedback.
