Description

It’s the night of Monday 10th October 1831. Nottingham is in chaos, people are rioting through the streets. Men and women are storming the gates of Nottingham Castle.

Reform Bill rioters desperate for some change to political representation targeted this symbolic site with dramatic results.

This RIOT 1831 app brings to life one spectacular night that still ignites debate and discussion. An augmented, animated layer of people’s memories of the attack will appear when you line up your device camera over surviving museum objects situated within the RIOT 1831 exhibition. You can also experience this technology at home by emailing and printing an image.

Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery is a magnificent 17th century Ducal Palace built on the site of an original Medieval Castle.

This app is designed to be used within the RIOT 1831 exhibition situated within Nottingham Castle.

Supported by Nesta, Arts & Humanities Council and public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
