The Universe--Chinese Characters Alive! is an iPhone App for learning Chinese characters. There are twelve lessons for learning the characters:

Each lesson includes a movie about the evolution of the character, an animation showing how to write the character stroke-by-stroke, a morph displaying the changes of the character through time, and an area for you to practice writing the character. Our multimedia approach helps students learn through logic, reasoning, and intuition.

The creators of this software also produced the award-winning Chinese Characters Alive! The same lessons are also available as CD-ROMs for Windows XP/7, and you may obtain more information at:

Chinese Characters Alive! has been featured at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and the Huntington Library, Garden, and Gallery in Pasadena, California. In 2008, we won the Innovative Multimedia Courseware Award from the Office of the Chinese Language Council International (“Hanban”) And the Best Overall Exhibit award from the San Jose Tech Museum of Innovation.
