Description

Nottingham has a secret - over five hundred man-made sandstone caves hidden beneath your feet. Some of the caves date back to the medieval period and beyond, and they have been used for many different purposes, from dungeons to summerhouses.

Scan a QR code placed at each cave location around the city or use the map to locate and investigate this rich secret.

The App features many exquisite videos created using LIDAR to capture the detail of the caves and presents them in a truly unique way. There are many previously unseen images and descriptions as well as detailed panoramic views of many of the caves which are otherwise inaccessible to the public.

The Nottingham Caves Survey, run by Trent & Peak Archaeology and the York Archaeological Trust, has been exploring caves since 2010.

This app was funded by English Heritage, Nottingham City Council, the Greater Nottingham Partnership, the British Geological Survey and Nottingham Civic Society.
