Well Disney has called time on the Marvel Avengers Alliance games, taking them off the App Store and saying that it's going to close the servers come the end of the month. And that's a pretty big shame if you're a fan of playing about as a superhero on your phone.

But don't worry, we've got you covered. Here's a big list of some of the best Marvel games on the App Store, and why you're probably going to enjoy playing them more than just hurling your phone out of the window and having a sulk.

Marvel Contest of Champions

A superb brawler featuring an all star cast of heroes from the Marvel Universe. As these simplified fighters go, Contest of Champions is pretty much the top of the tree.

Its violence is sharp and tight, and it looks absolutely stunning. The kicks are crunching, the spandex suits are close-fitting and sparkly, and the special moves explode in glorious technicolor.

It might not have the more tactical elements of the Avengers Alliance series, but it's still a wonderful way to punch some villains, and some heroes, right in their square jaws.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Okay so it's actually based on a film, but in my opinion this is the web-slingers best outing on iOS. It's sort of like Arkham Asylum, but more colourful and less well put together.

The best thing to do is ignore all the story missions and just go swinging around New York City stopping criminals and generally having a whale of a time.

Everything is solid enough that the various bugs aren't going to annoy you too much, and swinging from building to building is one of the best sensations you're likely to have while on your mobile.

Marvel Future Fight

This one's going to be a bit more familiar to fans of Avengers of Alliance. It's a free to play RPG that takes its Marvel characters down a slightly more action orientated avenue.

There's still a massive roster of characters to pick from, and the violence is every bit as bulky and gorgeous and explodes off the screen like you're watching a comic book come to life.

It's regularly updated with cool new characters from all of the Marvel movies and TV shows that are falling out of the sky at the moment as well.

Marvel Puzzle Quest

As you can probably tell from the title, this is a Marvel themed retweaking of the famous match-stuff puzzler. Rather than fighting beasts as a fantasy hero you're tooling up against villains and goons as a hero.

It's brilliantly well put together, and features all of the charm that we've come to expect from both of the licenses.

If you want a more cerebral pocket hero adventure, then you should definitely check this one out. Less punchy, more puzzley, and none the worse for it.
