5 games that we'd love to see on Facebook Messenger

Well Facebook Messenger has games now. We talked about it yesterday, remember? Probably not, your short term memory has likely been eroded by memes and gifs and I don’t know what else people use the internet for.

Anyway, while there are some pretty decent little arcade games in the Messenger package, I got thinking about which other games I’d like to see making use of the new HTML5 protocols that Facebook is rolling out.

So here’s a list of some games that I think would be brilliant as Messenger games. Feel free to add your own in the comments, if you feel like it. It’s entirely up to you. Be nice to know I wasn’t talking to myself though.

Rather than just having one-chance levels like the rest of the games on Messenger, it’d be cool if Angry Birds let you build up some structures to challenge your friends with.

Like a, “here, I made this, see if you can beat it” sort of thing. One of you’s the pig, one of you’s the bird, take it in turns seeing who can destroy the most stuff.

The Walking Dead

Okay bear with me on this one. Why not have a choose your own adventure game where two or more of you are doing the choosing? You’d need to discuss your choices, work out those moral grey areas, and then move on when you’d agreed.

It’d certainly make for an interesting take on the genre, and Messenger feels like the perfect platform for it, what with all the messaging going on. Also everyone loves zombies.

This is basically asynchronous already, since you get to do the attacking parts of the game and none of the defending. Take a few shots, see what happens, then let your Messenger friend have a go.

There’s even scope for a more managerial take on things. Sorting your formations and so on and then letting the game work out whether you’d score or not.

This could basically be a card battler. Each round you get to choose three cards that represent attacks, blocks, and counters. So does your opponent.

Then you post them and the game works out what’s happened. Did you block at the right time? Did your super hit. Like I would actually play that.

Sonic The Hedgehog

One of the best things about having friends in the past was getting a life each on Sonic. You’d play until you died and then pass the pad to whoever’s go it was next.

And that sort of thing would work brilliantly on Messenger. Have a go until you die, then let someone else take over. Finish the game together, cement your friendship, live happily ever after.
