Friday is upon us once more, which means it's the weekend tomorrow, which means it's only two days until Monday. Wow, that's really depressing.

Anyway, if you want something to keep you going over the next couple of days while you wait for the inevitable and interminable beginning of next week, you might want to check out the games on this here list.

Because it's a list of the five best iPhone and iPad games that have hit the App Store over the past seven days. You're definitely going to know one game on there, but you never know, you might find a new gem somewhere down there in all of that content.

You couldn't write this week's list without including Nintendo's first proper mobile game. And surprisingly enough it's a pretty impressive debut.

Lead Mario through a series of challenging auto-running levels, smile while you do it, and realise that there might be hope for the future of mobile if this one does well.

Lifeline: Halfway to Infinity

The next chapter in the engrossing Lifeline story. If you've not played the series before, it essentially takes place over a number of text messages between you and a stranded astronaut.

It's a clever use of the mobile hardware, it's well written, and there are more than a few twists and turns in the narrative that'll keep you on your toes.

Fieldrunners Attack!

A bit of a departure for the tower defence series. This is a bit more like Clash of Clans. But don't let that put you off, because there's some surprisingly deep strategy in here.

Raid bases, protect your own, and toughen up your army. There's a freedom to the action that you don't usually see in the genre, and that makes this one well worth checking out.

Tap Titans 2

A big shiny tapper that sees you hacking and slashing your way through a series of giant monsters. All by mashing your fingers over and over into the screen.

There isn't much depth here, but then it's a tapper, so you wouldn't really expect that. It is beautifully engrossing in a why am I doing this sort of a way. Give it a crack, you might be surprised.

Batman Episode 5 City of Light

The conclusion to Telltale's dark knight narrative landed this week. And if you've played it this far then there's a good bet you've been itching to find out what happens.

And if you prefer to play everything in one sitting, now's the perfect chance. Stick this one on your iOS device and you'll be able to waste most of the weekend pretending your Batman. Which is what I do anyway.
