It might not be the best of the series, but it’s the best looking and the one that’s most likely to get your relatives crowded round going ooh what’s that can I have a go where are the buttons I thought that was just a phone.

Warhammer 40,000 Freeblade

If you’ve got a new iOS device then there’s a good chance it’s going to have 3D Touch. If you want a game that utilises that, and you also like giant stompy robots mowing down waves of aliens, then you’re in luck.

Freeblade has all of those things. It’s a lot of fun as well. There’s shooting, fighting, stomping, and plenty of grizzled superhumans talking at you in pig latin. What’s more Christmassy than that?

Christmas might be a time of peace and goodwill, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t spend as much of it as you possibly can beating the living poop out of other people and destroying their ostentatious houses.

Scribble out symbols to pop balloons, learn new spells, and ensure that your castle is protected at all costs. And it’s all wrapped up like a present in some of the best chunky pixel graphics you’re going to see for a while.

Prune

Maybe you’re too full to move very much, and the goose fat you roasted your potatoes in has seeped into your brain and clagged up all the neurons. In which case you should definitely give Prune a try.

It’s a meditative puzzler about cutting bits off trees. It’s also quite sad, if that’s the sort of thing you’re looking for. Have a cry, chop up some logs, and make sure you play it all the way through to the end.
