Bug Heroes 2 | Hands-On

Developer Forsaken Media is just about to release Bug Heroes 2, the follow-up to its insect-centric "tactic action / defence hybrid" game.

In it, you take control of a pair of insect soldiers, and attempt to fend off waves of creepy crawlies, and prevent them from smashing up your base and stealing your food supplies.

I got to grips with Bug Heroes 2 about an hour ago, and am pleased to report that the game has bags of promise. It's smooth, easy to handle, and overflowing with colour and character.

We'll have to play a little further to find out how the free-to-play model affects the Bug Heroes 2's gameplay. However, to get a taste of what the game has in store for you, check out the hands-on video below.

Bug Heroes 2 will go live on the App Store at midnight tonight, and will be free to download.

I've been playing this all day and it's been a blast (though multiplayer is laggy-- but I don't blame it because it's still a fresh game on the market). I don't feel pressured to needing to buy gems or anything for characters, since you get gems per mission/skirmish/endless mode/multiplayer match. So, it'll take some grinding, but I'm sure I can get all of the non-Legend characters in a couple of weeks or so (the Legend characters are gonna take a lot more time, obviously).

The only thing I don't like is that you need "spare parts" to build and upgrade turrets. It's difficult because spare parts are relatively scarce. But, it's not game-breaking at all. Foursaken really did a great job with this new Bug Heroes game.

You should definitely play the original game, James! It makes playing this sequel all the better!

I'll have to give the first one a look, then. Glad to hear you're enjoying it.
