Hyper Cat features familiar arcade action, highscore chasing, and adorable kitty cats

Cycleplay's new auto-runner is called Hyper Cat, and it features cats in hats, trying to catch birds and generally (but futilely) try to reach the tops of the infinite trees they're scrambling up. The gameplay is definitely arcade-y and instant in feel: you tap on the screen to change which tree you're running up, avoiding hazards, very much like Timberman. Want in on the free-to-play feline fun? It's available now on iPhone, iPad, and Android. [App Store link] [Google Play link]…

Splode'N'Die trailer shows off gameplay of this tower defence crossed with match-3

When genres become tired, inventive developers attempt to blend them with other genres in the hope of brining something new to the formula. Splode'N'Die is mixing two very well established genres together for its core gameplay: tower defence, and match-3. It'll feature 48 levels to beat, leaderboards to top, and if you're rocking an iOS device with an A7 Chip, it'll be enhanced by Metal too. Fancy taking a look for yourself? It's available now. As you'll see in the trailer below, also on the bill is a new art style, over-the-top characters, and more levels of food serving action.…

This launch trailer for The Secret of Raven Rock will get everyone in The Room all Myst-y eyed

If you couldn't tell from my hilarious pun-filled title, The Secret of Raven Rock is heavily inspired by games like The Room and Myst. No bad thing: if you're going to take ideas from other sources, you may as well take from the best. The Secret of Raven Rock has 50 locations, 25 puzzles, a 3D world to explore, and a story that revolves around a person returning to their home town, only to find it mysteriously abandoned. Here's the launch trailer. The game's out now and costs $4.99 / £2.99. [App Store link]…

Brunettes Shoot Blondes music video for Knock Knock will ensure you never again look at your iPhone the same way

This is a bit off the beaten path, but hey, it's using mobile telephones for awesomeness, and that's what AppSpy is all about, so why not; 'Knock Knock' by Brunettes Shoot Blondes is a simply delightful music video that's doing the rounds at the moment. It uses 14 screens - mostly mobiles and tablets - in some ingenious ways, to tell the tale of two star-crossed lovers. Take a look, and let me know what you make of it in the comments.…

Is Assassin's Creed - Identity the mobile Assassin's Creed game we've been waiting for?

Is Assassin's Creed - Identity the mobile Assassin's Creed game we've been waiting for?

I'll keep this brief: Ubisoft has just soft-launched Assassin's Creed - Identity in Australia and New Zealand. Unlike the card games and companion apps Ubisoft has served up to iOS gamers in the past, this fully 3D "action RPG" is a close to a full-blown Assassin's Creed game as we've ever seen on mobile. Like its console counterpart, the game lets you explore ancient cities, leaping from rooftop to rooftop before stabbing-up some unsuspecting nobleman. Watch our hands-on with the soft-launch version of Assassin's Creed - Identity below. You can download the game right now if you live in Australia or New Zealand. The rest of the world will have to wait until 2015 for the game to go glob…

Coming to iOS this October, Colords is a combination of a cute 3D fantasy aesthetic, that looks to play a bit like arcade-y puzzlers such as Threes!. AppSpy nominated for a Games Media Award, offices now covered in bunting, confetti, cake

In a break from our regularly scheduled programming of awesome new trailers, hands-on impressions with unreleased mobile games, reviews of the hottest new titles, and generally faffing about on Twitch, today I've got some great news about AppSpy that I'd like to share with you. We've been nominated for an award! Huzzah! To be precise, it's a Games Media Award, which are kind of like the Oscars for journalists and other people who make editorial content about video games. AppSpy is nominated for Best Video outlet, and we're all super thrilled. James has taken his shirt off already, Danny's downing his Ultraman booze to celebrate, and I've reached out to Grazia to see if they want an inter…

@WeAreVigilantes shares new Imps in Tokyo video, I'm officially #intrigued

There's a lot of social media stuff going on in the new Imps in Tokyo trailer. Each of the monsters in the game is referred to as @Harvey, @Hester, @Louis, and so on, and each has their own hashtag to sum up their personality - @mrcornelious is #evil, apparently. The game itself looks to be an arcade-focused dodging and shooting game, with a rather wonderful cartoon look to proceedings. Imps in Tokyo is coming to iOS, and I must say that I'm kind of jazzed to see how it turns out. Sorry... #jazzed.…

Depth Hunter 2: Deep Dive could be the diving game we've been craving since Scuba Diver Adventures

Quick bit of backstory on this: Scuba Diver Adventures was an absolutely beautiful underwater escapade made by Biart that was almost ruined by heinous free-to-play shenanigans. Depth Hunter 2: Deep Dive appears to be the same sort of deal, made by the same people, only this time they're going premium. Consequently I'm extremely keen to get my hands on this one. Spearfishing, free diving, and underwater photography are all promised, across 25 missions and 3 locations. Depth Hunter 2: Deep Dive is out now on iOS priced $4.99 / £2.99 [App Store link]…

Gackt is voicing Lu Bu in Square Enix's 3594e - Romance of the Three Kingdoms Hero's Song, here's a video of him wearing an awesome set of armour

J-Pop mega star Gackt is providing his dreamy vocal chords to a brand new RPG from Square Enix. It's called 3594e - Romance of the Three Kingdoms Hero's Song, and will be based incredibly loosely on classic Chinese history novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. They've even done a trailer with Gackt in it, in which he's wearing a ridiculously cool outfit, and you can see it below. And yes, as you might expect, there's no word yet from Squeenix on whether it'll come to the west. Big ups to 4Gamer.net for spotting this one.…
