VERDICT
Arcade collectors will have a hard time deciding what marble-popper they'll purchase for their iPhones, but you wouldn't be disappointed with LUXOR. It's production value is strong and the gameplay covers everything you could want from the sub-genre; worth checking out.

They say that imitation is flattery, but when it comes to arcade marble-poppers LUXOR by MumboJumbo may not be an original concept, but this port to the iPhone is immediately fun and challenging; so what more could you ask for?
There are three major schemes for controlling the marble-shooter, but sadly the two optional methods seem to exist more as a side-note, with neither one being practical for use. Your shooter can be smoothly dragged around the bottom of the screen, with vertical drags to swap colored balls and tapping to fire, though at times the game can be sensitive and a swap or repositioning can be interpreted accidentally as firing.
The animation and artwork for the Egyptian theme are great and on some levels quite clever. One early level takes place at a lake, with the path and background artwork blended together to form an intricate scene to play on. Gameplay itself is fairly standard for the marble-popper genre, rewarding large chains of colored balls being rolled in to each other, though LUXOR distinguishes itself by having multiple short waves instead of one large chain.
You honestly could not go wrong with LUXOR being the only arcade marble-popper in your app library. It has integration with the Plus+ system and is fun to play while retaining all the challenge you'd come to expect of marbles winding their way across your screen. People who already have a marble-popper may not find too much new here, but it's certainly worth a look for everyone else.
