Milo and the Magpies is a new point and click game produced by Second Maze Studios, and is the debut game by Johan Shreft, a Dutch Painter who previously designed the background to Second Mazes earlier title “Rusty Lake”.

After having an unfortunate run-in with a gang of malicious magpies Milo, the eponymous feline protagonist of the game, finds themselves very far from home and journeys out to find their way back to their owners. To do this, Milo needs to stealthy work their way through the neighbours homes and gardens like they own the place, whilst solving various puzzles and causing quite a bit of collateral damage. Johan Shreft has truly created an accurate cat simulator.

The gameplay revolves around a fairly simplistic point and click system with some hidden object elements worked in. These mechanics work together fairly well to deliver an enjoyable experience as players search for the items needed and puzzle out where in the environment to use them and advance, all the while making sure to stay out of sight and avoiding the antagonist magpies that hound Milo.

Where the game shines the most however is the graphics. Each of the nine levels' backgrounds are both designed and hand-painted by Jogan Shreft before being rendered into the game, and the result is a fantastically beautiful art style. These muted works of art contrast incredibly well with the sharper art of the characters and result in a game that is surely worth the download for the design alone.

In addition to the stunning artwork, each level has a unique theme song composed by Victor Butzelaar, a musician who also helped in the development of “Rusty Lake”. The music superbly complements the calming art style and together result in a game that is perfect to sit down and completely relax with.

Milo and the Magpies is available to download now on the App Store and Google Play. It's a premium game that costs $1.99.
