Marvel Contest of Champions reveals two new characters

By , on March 8, 2022

Two new superheroes are entering the Fray in Marvel Contest of Champions, as announced by the very aptly named developers Kabam. Joining to duke it out in the superhero-based brawler are Captain Britain and Omega Sentinel.

Taking place in The Battlerealm, Marvel Contest of Champions has a host of Marvel superheroes act as champions battling it out in The Contest, a title that literally writes itself. Being able to choose from iconic heroes such as Wolverine and Spider-Man, villains like Sabertooth and Magneto, or those that straddle the line like Deadpool, players can beat the onomatopoeias out of each other using everyone's signatures moves.

This latest update sees the ruler of Battlerealm, The Grandmaster, and Captain Britain bring together the warring mutant factions of Kramoa, Clan Akkaba and The Brotherhood of Mutants to take part in a tournament to discover who is worthy enough to take charge of all the mutants. Of course, this all goes pearshaped with the appearance of the Human-Sentinel-Hybrid mutant hunter Omega Sentinel.

Opting to go for one of the original Captain Britains, Contest of Champions introduces Elizabeth “Betsy” Braddock, who spent most of her adult life fighting with the X-Men as Psylocke’, whilst her brother Brian Braddock donned the mantle of Captain Britain. After a brief period of being mind swapped with the assassin Kwannon, Braddock reclaimed her original form and inherited the role of Captain Britain from her brother. These origins are reflected in her playstyle, as the mutant abilities of telepathy and telekinesis can be wielded to wreak havoc or summon a psionic sword and shield to batter the opponent into submission in time for some tea and crumpets.

The Omega Sentinel started out life as a human named Karima Shapandar, who was, unfortunately, augmental by Sentinel technology and made into a cyborg sleeper agent, to be triggered into killing machines whenever they detect a mutant nearby. Despite a valiant struggle to hold onto humanity, Shapandar succumbed to their sentinel protocols as the programming overtook her humanity, leaving only the mutant hunter behind. As a cyborg the Omega Sentinel has the ability to transform their arms into cannons, blasting prey with plasma and incineration rays from afar, or say what the hell and close the gap to beat opponents with the arm-based weaponry instead. Saving ammo is good economics in any world.
