Board flipping, family destroying disharmony comes to mobile Monopoly, with the release of the Enchanted Forest. Not all the magical pixies and elves can join in with cherished childhood memories of grumpy parents being beaten in a board game by oblivious children.

It would probably be a widely held belief that everyone has played Monopoly before, or at least heard of it. For those who haven’t, Monopoly was originally a board game released in 1935 by Parker Brothers, eventually joining with Hasbro. In essence, players go around a board buying up property in an attempt to get money in rent when opponents land on those squares, with the goal to be the only one not bankrupted by the end. There are also squares where players draw cards to gain or lose money, as well as the customary cheater at the table slyly robbing the bank. It's all good fun until someone flips the table because they landed on a fully decked-out Mayfair.

Back in December 2019, Marmalade Game Studio released the official version of Monopoly on mobile. In the newest update, the developer has added the Enchanted Forest, which reskins the board and brings some magic into capitalism. Instead of the standard pieces like the Top Hat, Car and Dog, players can now pick between Gnome Wizard, Enchanted Frog, Sly Fox and Snail Steed. The Gnome and the Snail, in particular, look brilliant.

The new setting features winding rivers, butterflies, bees, bright flowers and dappled light for platers to marvel at whilst buying the new properties such as the Enchanted Castle, or trying to collect the new stations like Old Boot and Lilypad. The income tax squares have also been replaced, instead of paying tax players are instead attacked by vines or Trolls, which is just so much better.

On developing this expansion the co-CEO of Marmalade, Cristina Mereuta, said “Developing Enchanted Forest has been a real pleasure for our team, and we look forward to helping players to sink into the moment with some Monopoly mindfulness. It’s a great way for families and friends to get together and welcome Springtime with a little pixie dust.”

Monopoly is available to download now on Google Play and the App Store.
