The newest instalment in The Dark Eye series of video games, Forgotten Fables: Wolves on the Westwind launches today. Developed by Owned by Gravity, the studio behind the turned-based Fantasy General series, and published by The Dark Eye pen-and-paper license holder Ulisses Spiele, Wolves on the Westwind has some pretty good fantasy pedigree behind it.

Being part of The Dark Eye franchise certainly sets Wolves on the Westwind in good stead. TDE is the most successful tabletop role-playing game in Germany, even outselling the RPG benchmark Dungeons and Dragons. With storytelling being a huge part of these types of games, and Owned by Gravity opting to go in a choose your own adventure direction with it, Wolves on the Westwind will most certainly have a deeply engrossing world and narrative to jump into.

Set on the continent of Aventuria, players will be thrust unto the high seas into an epic tale of heroism, where a fearsome myth becomes far too real. Given a choice between a grizzled veteran warrior named Alrik, or the young wizard Nedime, a mystical adventure awaits to save the land from an ancient evil.

Travelling through the frozen reaches of Thorwal, the northern region of Aventuria, players will meet many unique characters with their own backstories and abilities. These characters can be joined in alliances, however, caution will be needed as some may be less trustworthy than others. Battles are approached with the same forethought, sometimes a diplomatic approach is better than a head-on attack.

A playthrough of the story will take around 15 hours, however, the game offers a lot of replayability opportunities, with over 30 characters to meet depending on what choices are made, and multiple endings available to experience. Couple this with an atmospheric soundtrack and Wolves of the Westwind makes for a very entertaining fantasy adventure.

Wolves of the Westwind is available to buy now on the App Store for $7.99.
