Today, Ubisoft announced a new entry in the Tom Clancy's The Division series, a free-to-play third-person shooter RPG for mobile called Resurgence. As an extra piece of good news for fans of the series, the mobile entry will be canonical and aims to enrich the existing world.

Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, a mouthful of a title, will offer a new perspective on the key events that take place across The Divison 1 and 2. As the chaos continues to wreck New York City, players will fill the boots of the first-wave agents from the Strategic Homeland Divison, and be tasked with protecting civilians and combating hostile factions.

The influences from the previous games in the series will be seen, as Ubisoft is aiming to make Resurgence a full AAA experience in mobile format, capturing as much of the essence of the series as possible. That means gameplay will follow the same line of being a shooter looter, rampaging through the city and stealing all the enemies' guns and gear as they are mown down. Maintaining the RPG aspects of levelling up, there is a selection of specializations with their own unique signature weapons, gadgets and abilities to unlock, which can be swapped between at any time.

This type of gameplay did work well in the console games but could get a little repetitive, however with the inherent dip-in-and-out nature of mobile games, being able to jump in to collect better gear whenever there is a free minute sounds like it will work pretty well. With Resurgence also announced to keep the co-op gameplay from the console versions, this new entry sounds like an exciting prospect to follow.

Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence has yet to begin testing, so a release date has yet to be provided. It has been confirmed that it will be available on both the App Store and Google Play upon release, and any player who would like to participate in the upcoming alpha test, again no date as yet provided, can do so on the official website.
