Square Enix London Mobile has announced they are partnering with Paramount Consumer Product to produce a new game based on Nickelodeon's Avatar: The Last Airbender, entitled Avatar: Generations. The game will also be developed by Vancouver studio Navigator Games and will be a Turn-Based RPG.

Despite how immensely popular Avatar: The Last Airbender ended up being, there have been very few video games based on the IP, which given some TV tie-in games could be a blessing. It does bode well however that an established video game company, especially in RPG circles, like Square Enix are involved in the creation.

The game will follow some fan favourite characters throughout the series, with the first chapter fittingly focusing on the full Gaangl Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Appa and Momo as they travel the world for Aangs training. Further expansion will even include Avatar Kyoshi, Korra and Roku, so the net is being cast wide in the world. The gameplay will feature squad-based battles and adventure sequences, with a deep upgrade and party customization system to get the best out of every member.

“We are thrilled to unveil ‘Avatar: Generations’ as the second official title in production from Square Enix London Mobile and I can’t wait for players to dive in later this year,”  said Patrick Naud, Head of Mobile, Square Enix Montréal. “Avatar: Generations represents Square Enix London Mobile’s continued investment in publishing high-quality free-to-play mobile titles based on iconic IPs.”

“With a globally beloved brand of this level, we’ve endeavored to create a game that expands the rich and storied universe of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender,’ in a way that feels authentic and exciting to fans of the series and RPG games alike. At the same time, we’ve ensured that the game remains accessible to anyone who doesn’t traditionally play RPG’s,”  said Will Moore, CEO, Navigator Games. “Our partners at Square Enix London Mobile have been hugely supportive in these efforts, and we’re working closely with our community during this soft launch period to make the best version of the game possible.”

Avatar: Generations will be getting a soft launch in August, for Canada, Denmark, South Africa and Sweeden for Android and iOS devices, with more to follow in the coming months.
