Before hitting it big with their platformer Owlboy, D-Pad Studio released their debut action game Savant, which the developers were recently creating an anniversary remaster of, however, what happens when a project like this gets out of hand? Well, then you get Savant - Ascent Remix.

Originally designed to simply be a love letter to their original creation, named Savant - Ascent Anniversary Edition, the developers instead got a little overexcited, which is what we love to see. Instead of just recreating their original, more and more features and levels were added, resulting in the project being named Ascent Remix.

As opposed to the original games' two stages, Remix will instead boast five, each with their own unique gimmicks to get to grips with. You will have to tackle a host of enemies such as an immortal Samurai, robotic space invaders, and rather interestingly, sharks with frickin’ laser beams. At the end of each level, you will need to vanquish a troublesome boss, but you will come packing new abilities such as double jumps, cancel jumps, and mid-air power shots.

In addition to these new stages, there are a host of new modes to jump into. Survival Mode is an endless ride on the elevator until the inevitable end. For those wanting a challenge, there are extra difficulty modes, including an NES-style no checkpoint Hardcore Mode for those sadists out there. Finally, there are 22 new songs from acclaimed Norwegian musician Savant.

When discussing the evolution of Remix, D-Pads’ Jo-Remi Madsen said: “We got a bit carried away with Savant - Ascent Remix. Our original goal was to release a little remaster to celebrate the release of our debut title a decade ago."

“However, Savant - Ascent REMIX has now expanded into something way bigger than that - it’s essentially a brand new game in the Savant universe!"

Savant - Ascent Remix is slated to be released on September 15th on PC, with the Android and iOS versions following later.
