Niantic is kicking off Monster Hunter Nows’ life in the only way it really could; by unleashing a rampaging hoard of Diablos. This upcoming weekend, you can take part in the game's first event by making your way over to a desert region and hunting down these fearsome herbivorous beasts.

Despite their terrifying looks, name, and giant horns of death, the Diablos are not carnivores, instead gouging themselves on desert cacti. Until that is, a foolhardy adventurer approaches these territorial creatures, and then they are machines of utter doom. This makes them perfect for this event that has quests where you need to take photos of them.

Now you may be thinking; desert region, does that mean I need to plan a short-notice trip to the Gobi? Be at ease, because this is not the case. Monster Hunter Go has a map that splits your current area into a variety of zones like Swamp, Forest, and, indeed, Desert, depending on the colour shade. All you need to do this weekend is run to the yellow ones.

There is something important to bear in mind before you start racing to any Desert. Niantic has stated that monsters appear more frequently in large parks, so you will want to find yourself a yellow park on your map. As a side note, it is a good safety implementation to stop people just bundling into alleyways that are deserts, but still use common sense and stay safe.

More on the safety point, this event is taking place on the 23rd and 24th between 13:00 and 16:00 local time, so you don’t even need to be up too early or kicking around in the dark. Niantic seems to of learnt from its past mistakes in a certain yellow mouse game. You will also need to have reached HR11, Rathalos is picky about who it tries to eat. Also, that's when you unlock Events, but mostly the picky eating part.

Monster Hunter Now is available to download from the App Store and Google Play.
