Play the first level of Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land for free

If you're interested in Red Wasp Design's ghoulish RTS Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land, which sees you battling against nightmarish forces in an alternate World War 1, you can now grab a free trial of the tutorial and the first level for nothing at all.

Since we reviewed the game at the start of the year, there've been a few tweaks to the gameplay, and plenty of new content packs that add even more gloopy violence to the tale of soldiers and investigators attempting to uncover an evil conspiracy at the heart of the Great War.

More interestingly, if you're still not convinced after playing the first level, you can pay a little extra to buy the next one, and have a bash through that while you make up your mind. In fact, you can keep doing that until you've bough all the levels. Although that'll cost you more than the premium game, which you can also buy as an in app purchase.

It's a model that Square Enix has tried recently with Final Fantasy Dimensions - give players the first hit for free to get them addicted, then knock up the price for the following installments.

“We wanted to give players who might be interested in either the game or the concepts a chance to try out the title before they commit their hard earned cash to it." Said the game's designer Tomas Rawlings in a press release. "With the free version they can try the game out first and then if they like what they see, we'd hope they buy the full version.”

So if you fancy slaying some terrifying demons in the trenches of the Great War, and you haven't got any money, head over to the App Store and have a look at what Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land has to offer. You might be pleasantly surprised.
