I am torn on this one. The Ultima franchise is responsible for so much in the Western RPG genre, and captivated the imaginations of innumerable gamers growing up in the 80s and 90s. Sadly like most franchises, a couple less than stellar entries made the continuation of the series less profitable and it quietly left in the night (if you don't count the MMO which pretty much was the blueprint for that genre as well). Well now slated for a Quarter Two release this year is Ultima Forever. Here's a teaser trailer.
On one hand, Mythic is a studio with a great track record, and the game has a classic Western RPG look to it. On the other hand, EA's business practises have been less than stellar, and you have to wonder whether this is going to be designed around an aggressive in-app purchase model. This is just speculation of course, and we won't know for sure till the game is released.
