Monsters, Inc. Run Review

It was bound to happen - the freight train of Disney Interactive's mash-up of successful iOS franchises with their own properties has run in to a bit of a snag. Where previous titles managed to blend its inspirations up and come out with something new, 'Monsters, Inc. Run' opts to simply balance the freemium auto-runner to create something more akin to what the first title should have been. As such the best moments of this title match those of Mega Run by Get Set Games without much in…

METAL SLUG 1 Review

METAL SLUG 1 Review

There's one thing that has held back previous releases of the METAL SLUG franchise on the iOS platform, and that one thing is simply its 'controls'. The games are, without question, just as amazing as they were in the arcades and the perfect fodder for gamers after a hardcore side-scrolling shooter, but games like this live and die by their controls and sadly SNK PLAYMORE has missed an opportunity to come up with a novel solution. If you've never played METAL SLUG, I thoroughly recomm…

Real Racing 3 delayed until February

If you've been waiting with baited breath for EA's shockingly good looking race simulator Real Racing 3, then you're in for a disappointment. Speaking to Pocket Gamer, EA has confirmed that the console quality racer is going to miss its tentative 2012 release date by two whole months. The game was first revealed back in August at Apple's iPhone 5 press conference, and wowed the crowds there with some of the most impressive mobile graphics that any of the assembled throng of tech journalists had ever seen. In a statement to PG, an EA spokesperson said "our goal for Real Racing 3 is to create an experience that resets the bar for racing games on mobile, and we wanted to take some extra…

Dead Trigger gets violently festive update

What better way to fill your life with Christmas cheer than slaughtering hundreds of highly detailed zombies on your mobile device of choice? Well, that's exactly what Madfinger are offering in the latest free update to Dead Trigger. The new update, which pushes the game to version 1.70, features the obligatory North Pole level, where you take on hordes of the undead, most of whom are wearing Santa hats or reindeer helmets. 'Tis the season, after all. You'll also get to face off against Zanta, a new boss character who, if our word skills are up to scratch, is a big fat zombie version of Father Christmas. Looks like we're all going to end up on the naughty list this year. The update is ava…

Running Ronin - Out December 20th

Yes, it's a samurai game, yes it's a runner, but look at that beautiful art and sound design. Hopefully it controls and plays as nicely as it looks. Have a watch of the trailer to see it in motion. As the title of the article says, look for this one to be hitting the App Store on December 20th.…

iPad Finger Twister

iPad Finger Twister

Thanks to the increased size of the iPad, there have plenty of apps that utilize the tablet as a defacto game board, and it's not hard to see a group of friends crowding around it, taking turns in some digital version of their favourite games. Enter Fingstar. While not exclusively a party game, this looks like it would be more fun with at least one other person if not more, as you try and accomplish what the game asks of you in increasingly difficult ways. Have a look at this gameplay trailer to see what I mean. The game is due out sometime around the 18-22 of December.…

Middle Manager of Justice Review

Middle Manager of Justice Review

When someone says their game is for free, there's always going to be a catch - either it's merely a demo for something larger, or there are multiple strings attached in an effort to guide you towards their In-App Purchase store. While the former is something we're used to, the latter is still a sore point for many gamers as developers often strip back their game, holding back gameplay behind artificial walls (often through extended waiting periods). Middle Manager of Justice by Double…

Fluxx Review

Review Playdek, Inc. By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 4 months ago
Fluxx Review

To understand Fluxx by Playdek and Looney Labs you have to understand 'madness' itself. If you reach back to the days of your youth, there are undoubtedly examples of play time with friends where 'playing' was all that mattered - rules existed in a basic sense, but they were ever-changing and evolving, almost at random. Fluxx embodies this free-spirited insanity to create a card game that is never the same game each time you play it; in fact it's entirely different from round to round,…

Friday News Wrap -Up 14 December 2012

Scratch today's delayed Wrap-Up to a literal run-in with another vehicle - yes, I was in an accident (and yes I'm OK), but things got a little crazy and I'm back on board for news-related funLets jump straight to the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 14th of December, 2012. Rovio Celebrates 3 Years of Angry BirdsTime, it seems, flies much like a bird (possibly an angry one) and Finnish developer Rovio can chalk up three years of delivering pig-smashing action to the iOS platform. In that time we've seen everything from the vanilla title, to 'Seasons', 'Rio', 'Space', 'Star Wars', and even a side-step with 'Bad Piggies'. It's only fitting that the upcoming Angry Birds animated film is headed up…

Zombies. Review

[This title was featured as the mini-review for the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 14th of December, 2012] You're a grunt crushed under the wheels of a large corporation working in their IT department, and suddenly, one day, you find out that the management have all turned in to zombies. It doesn't matter how or why, but by scavenging the building you'll find enough weapons to make your way to the exit, maybe save a few co-workers and blow up those damn printers that have always annoyed…

Pudding Monsters

Pudding Monsters

Zeptolabs are resposible for developing the iPhone hit Cut the Rope, and their newest creation is a puzzle game called Pudding Monsters. Makes sense to me; people love pudding, and most can tolerate monsters (even going so far as to like cute ones). The game utilises the mechanic of swiping objects so they meet up (which we've seen before), but the twist is depending on the level, that's only the start of it... plus the pudding has a lot of charm (now there's a phrase I never thought i'd type). Have a look at the trailer. The game is due out on December 20th.…

Viking Puzzle Platforming

Icebreaker is a physics based puzzle platformer being released by Nitrome studios. It looks visually impressive and while the trailer doesn't exactly highlight the gameplay, you can see there will be lots of slashing and physics manipulation. Looks fun. Have a gander for yourselves. There is no release date planned as of yet. According to their website, they are 80% complete, so my estimates would put this towards an early 2013 release. We'll update information as it becomes available.…

Respawnables spawns on the App Store

Zynga has gone and done the unthinkable and released a game that actually looks like it could be snare in some hardcore players. Called Respawnables, it's a cartoon style third person multiplayer shooter. Taking its visual cues from the likes of Battlefield: Heroes and Team Fortress 2, the game also features plenty of weapons and pieces of armour to unlock as you play. This being Zynga there's items to buy with real life money too, but the core of the gameplay looks solid enough that you're not going to begrudge throwing a few coins down to get some better gear. The game is available right now from the App Store for the princely sum of nothing at all. So if you're a fan of multiplayer bla…
