Fieldrunners 2 updated for Halloween
Subatomic Studios has updated the really rather brilliant Fieldrunners 2 just in time for Halloween, adding in a new Jack O'Lantern tower that spews out powerful gouts of fire. Called the BOOM-kin tower, the spooky new weapon in your arsenal isn't the only new addition to the game. There have been some quite extensive tweaks to the game too to increase loading time and optimise performance. As well as the behind the scenes stuff, the game now features iCloud saves, so you can play on one iOS device, and pick up where you left off on another, even crossing your saves between the iPad and IPhone versions. The updated version of the app should be in the App Store right about now, and if yo…
He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe™ Review
There's one thing Skeletor always had right about He-Man - he's a bit of a dunce. Not your typical muscle-headed stubbornness mind you, but rather a blind 'do right at all costs' sort of fellow who'll act before thinking. So it's entirely appropriate that Mattel's reboot of the series as a side-scrolling action brawler should feel just as dense, but not in the mindless 'fun' way. You, as Adam in his guise of He-Man, are tasked with stopping Skeletor from pulling off his latest scheme.…
Punch Quest Review
So many auto-runners vie for attention now it can seem like a vast generic blur of jumping, sliding and coin-grabbing albeit with a gimmick here or there to prop it up. Punch Quest by Rocketcat Games and Madgarden makes no apologies for jumping in on the bandwagon, but it does so with as much pomp and excitement as Jetpack Joyride, while also bringing something far more interesting to the table - near endless brawling. The name says it all - your character starts and ends their…

Heroes & Castles - Control Your Army From The Battlefield
While we wait for more news about Foursaken Media's upcoming release of N.Y. Zombies 2, the team is proud to show off another of their projects - Heroes & Castles. Players are placed right down on the battlefield, selecting from one of three heroes (Warrior, Paladin or Engineer), and directing their forces while fending off foes. In a way it reminds me of the Dynasty Warriors formula, albeit with more of a real-time strategy edge. Players may find themselve deep in battle with a horde of enemies where "you'll look to your right as 20 Peons hold the line against skeleton warriors... on your left 2 giants smash their clubs into a goblin horde, knocking them 20 feet back in all direction…
Sponsored Feature: EnSight Media on waking up with Radio Alarm Clock
Waking up on time is so important - you don't need me to tell you that, though. It's likely you use a set tone or a panicky spouse to help you rouse from your slumber, mind, rather than a sound you actually want to hear. EnSight Media's latest app Radio Alarm Clock helps to make waking up as enjoyable or bearable as possible, though, offering several radio stations and tones to choose from. Manchul Ko, CMO of Ensight Media, spoke to us about how his company's app stands out in a crowded market, how easy it is to use, and why it shows how the sound of smooth jazz is popular (almost) worldwide. Accessibility is essential in an app like Radio Alarm Clock, and fortunately it's as simp…
Gamelion releases League of Heroes
Gamelion, the developer behind Monster Shooter and Doodle Fit has released a new free-to-play hack and slasher called League of Heroes. Set in a rich fantasy universe populated with gorgeous, hand drawn 2D sprites, the game looks to riff on the likes of Zelda, giving you an isometric world to attack with your trusty weapon. The game offers enormous boss battles, huge hordes of enemies for you to slice and dice your way through, and a huge number of quests to sate the adventurer's urge in all of us. League of Heroes is available right now from the App Store for nothing at all, and we've embedded a trailer below so you can get a taste of the brightly coloured fantasy violence you're going…
FAA's Free App of the Day – Random Heroes
Sadly we just missed out on a deal for Super Crate Box, but for those after another solid platformer, check out the Free App Alliance's latest pick! "Random Heroes is another excellent platformer from Ravenous Games. That's the studio responsible for equally excellent League of Evil 1 and 2. Basically, you have to take control of one of 15 different heroes, and attempt to save the world across more than 30 levels. You have guns and other weapons to help you out, but don't expect a walk in the park - this is one tricky game." Trailer: You can check out our review of Random Heroes here (note the game has been updated since this release - so take the plunge!) Download…
App Wrap Up (Tuesday Edition, 23rd October 2012)
Hey hey everyone! It's a Tuesday, and while we don't normally have an App Wrap Up today, my list of interesting games to showcase is bursting at the seams, so let's get started! As always, our impressions and choices are based solely on the trailers. Got it? Good. Let's go! Spectrum Run (Tobias Hagemann) Kind of cut from the same cloth as last week's reviewed Polara, this is an endless runner based on changing to the appropriate colour to make it through the obstacles. It adds an extra level of reaction based thinking to deal with and due to this, could turn into a great challenge or horrendous frustration.[App Store Link] Fruit Rocks (Ad Maiora Studio) Watching the trailer…
Skyriders Review
Skyriders by Inverse Blue treads a fine line. Skill-based time-trial racers are notorious for their sharp difficulty curves, and this space-themed title provides no less of a challenge, however clever level design and simple, yet insanely fun gameplay keeps you coming back for more punishment. First appearances may make you think of games like F-Zero and you'd be on the right path, however instead of racing AI opponents you're attempting to beat your own time and score. In order to do…

Super Meat Boy iOS delayed
The iOS version of Team Meat's super difficult, super gory platformer Super Meat Boy has been delayed for a little while as the two man dev team focus on a different project. Speaking on their blog, the team said that while the game would see the light of day on iOS devices soon, new cat mutating title Mewgenics was going to be their focus for the time being. There's no word yet on whether Mewgenics will appear on iOS devices, but Team Meat moved to reassure fans of their hardcore platformer that Super Meat Boy would definitely rear its meaty head on iOS. "SMB fans need not worry, the new Super Meat Boy (SMB:TG) is still in dev, just on hold till we squeeze this little kitten out of our…
Zaxxon Escape Review
As Arcade games go, Zaxxon by SEGA remains milestone in gaming history thanks to its many firsts - not the least of which was the introduction of 'axonometric projections' to create a sort-of holographic 3D effect. Thankfully it's 2012 now and 3D effects are the least of our worries, so SEGA have dug up their classic title to give it Temple Run-like shake-up. It's here that things start to feel a bit worrying - avoiding hazards has always been a staple in the original isometric shoot'…

Falling...and Falling
While a lot of games based on vertical movement have you jumping ever highwards, Freedom Fall has decided to travel in the other direction. Being released on the App Store sometime in mid-November, this gameplay and art style look good enough to make this an enjoyable experience. Of course looks can be decieving, but we'll wait till it's out to pass judgement. Here's the trailer.…
Borderlands set to make its iOS debut
According to a page from the digital strategy guide for Borderlands 2 dug up by IGN, It looks like 2K's post apocalyptic RPG/FPS hybrid is set to make its bow on mobile devices. Borderlands Legends takes place in the same rich universe as its console brethren, and features Roland, Lilith, Mordecai, and Brick - the stars of the original Borderlands - in a wave based battle built specifically for iOS devices. The game, which sees you leading your favourite character in a series of randomised missions, levelling them up and gaining powers as you do, is set to see the light of day sometime this month, although no firm release date has been given just yet. Still, it's good to see another pop…
