PROS

  • Wi-fi multiplayer mode is great for this type of game.
  • Simple control scheme takes a short time to get used to.

CONS

  • The slower style gameplay may deter some players.
  • The game has no music and no option to use iPod either.
  • There are limited upgrades and weapons, even after a patch update.

VERDICT

This is a simple strategy shooter that anyone can get into, and for its current price will be worth the few hours you will rack up playing.

iRaft Wars is a strategy shooting game where players take control of small fruit like characters on a raft. Your goal is to shoot and knock off other characters on enemy rafts before they shoot and knock you off. You can also purchase raft upgrades or special weapons in order to turn the tables on your opponents in the art of raft warfare.

iRaft War’s gameplay focuses mainly on lining up the right shot for the kill. Players control the power and angle of their shot by using their finger to calibrate. When pleased with the angle and speed, players release and wait for the shot to hit. Players cannot dodge or deflect enemy attacks, which means that your best defence really is a good offence.

The visuals are simple but cute, and the sound is limited to that of cannons firing and the splash of a stray cannon ball; nothing else. Players are unable to listen to their iPod while playing, which is disappointing. There is a single player mode and also a Wi-fi multiplayer mode were you can verse a friend, which is always more fun than the enemy AI.

iRaft Wars is a game for those who enjoy strategy games such as Bowman. The simple gameplay and friendly game content means that anyone can play. Some players might find the gameplay a little too slow and tiring, but if you can get past the game speed then there’s a good strategy game waiting for you.
