Poker Superstars III Review

Poker Superstars III puts players in the hot seat of a competitive Texas Hold ‘Em competition against a series of different opponents from the reality show of the same name. Players will deal up and play a series of matches in order to qualify and play in the game’s big tournament mode for a shot at fame, glory and good old cash.

The game’s actions such as betting, dealing and so forth are controlled by pressing the appropriate buttons on screen. You’ll also adjust the betting by sliding a small bar when prompted to adjust the amount. The controls are pretty foolproof but as they are uninspiring button based commands, the gameplay can become quite boring after a while.

The visuals are solid including a number of interactive player profiles that change expression based on the outcome of the game. The game audio features a number of decent sound effects but is nothing to rave about. Players also have the option to use their own iPod during gameplay. There are two single player only game modes for players to enjoy; the long playing Tournament mode and the quick action Single Round.

Poker Superstars III is a solid poker game but isn’t the best one to bet on. The button control scheme slows down the pace of the action making gameplay boring and the computer AI is quite dumb - betting or going all in on poor hands. This isn’t a terrible game but it certainly needs some future adjustment to make it as enjoyable as a poker game can, and should be.
