Have you ever played a game of Dr. Mario and felt like the walls are closing in? That must have been the consensus over at Little White Bear studios when they made Compression. Blocks of certain colours drop, and you need to line up three in a row to destroy all the hollow blocks in the level. Every three block drops however one of the walls will close in, giving you less room to work with.
Control is very basic. Drag the blocks to move them across the screen, and tap to flip them. As the levels increase, more hollow blocks need to be obliterated, but where they are placed and which wall is going to close in is random everytime you play.
The game sports a very gritty, worn look, with even the coloured blocks looking faded. The music adds to the tension and pacing of the gameplay, and the sound effects are decent. Alongside the main mode, a Blocked mode can be purchased via DLC which adds metal blocks and bombs into the mix.
Compression is an interesting take on the block dropping puzzle genre. By closing the game board, there is a greater sense of urgency, especially when a hollow piece is lost under a glut of coloured blocks. Puzzle fans, and those looking for some quick fun will enjoy what's on offer here.
