Is there a gamer alive who hasn't played Tetris? It's been ported to every system imaginable, and now with touch controls, EA have brought it to the iPhone. The goal is the same as always. One of seven shaped blocks will fall. You need to rotate and place them so that a line is created, and then erased. The more lines erased, the faster the game gets. If the blocks reach the top, game over.

At first glance, the touch controls seemed like a bad idea. Wouldn't tilting the iPhone be better? Luckily the controls are implemented quite well. Dragging moves the blocks, tapping flips them. A swift flick sends blocks to the bottom. The only time the controls start feeling fiddly is in the later levels, when split second thinking is required.

There's not much to say in regards to Tetris's visuals. They work. The music works also, but it would have been nice to be able to play the iPod while flipping and placing blocks. Along with the main mode, there is a magic mode, where each level has a particular goal, and you can acquire powerups to help you reach it.

In the end, this is Tetris. You know it, you've played it. This is a good port, but in the panic of later stages, the touch controls might put you off. Still, if you can't get enough of falling blocks, give this game a whirl.
