uBoot is an arcade game that throws players in the deep end, literally. You’re in control of a small submarine and must travel the briny depths of the ocean all while avoiding various mines, strange sea creatures and other submarines. You must go as far as possible in order to max out your highscore and progress onto the next level.

The controls differ based on which of the three difficulties you play on. In the easiest mode, players must move their ship up and down by tilting their iPhone. On medium, missiles are added to the mixture and on hard, speed controls and mines are also added. The easiest mode really does tend to make the game a bit too easy to play but hard will certainly challenge and excite you.

The game’s 2D presentation is quite enjoyable, even if the only visual variations in each level are the enemies. The sound is dynamic and well done but it's unfortunate that there isn’t any iPod access during the game. uBoot only offers one main mode to play through with a local highscore board for each of the three difficulties but no online leaderboards for competitive players.

If you’re a fan of action/arcade games then uBoot is certainly a title to keep an eye out for. The controls are simple and the gameplay is accessible to younger players, but more seasoned players might want to jump straight into the hardest difficulty setting as the other two will seem a bit too easy. Regardless, there’s a solid amount of enjoyable gameplay here at a reasonable price.
