Futuristic racing games are a special breed. The idea is that in the future, racing will be much faster and more dangerous than it is today. Speed Forge Extreme is here to add to the genre. In the year 2142, Mars has been colonized and the inhabitants need a form of entertainment. Enter high speed combat racing!

There are a couple choices of control scheme here. The default is using tilt steering, with touch breaking and weapons. Alternatively you can use a virtual steering wheel, and can even invert the controls if you wish. In the career mode, every race won will unlock a new feature, whether it be homing missles to destory the other racers, or speed boosts on the track to keep you on the edge of your seat.

The game sports some nice 3D graphics. The tracks themselves are well rendered, as are the craft. The textures are a bit muddy but with the motion blur of the 3GS, this isn't a big issue. The sound is decent and the music is high tempo with many tracks, but if electronica isn't your thing, you can use your ipod. The career mode contains 12 tracks with a host of unlockables, with an additional inverted career mode as well as a battle arena.

While not spectacular, Speed Forge Extreme is a very well made racing game. The weapons do add a start/stop feel to the races when you get destroyed, but it controls well, and the tracks are fun. If you're looking for another racing game, you might want to give this a try.
