I honestly don't get the attraction to drift racing, which is odd considering its popularity with many of my friends and indeed around the world. However, after spending time with Drift Mania Championship by Ratrod Studio I came close to understanding and if nothing else it's an impressive title at a bargain price that most racing fans should find hard to ignore.

Drifting, as the game points out, is the sport of being in control of being out of control. The interface is amazingly elegant, giving players tight control over the car's turning via tilt controls and acceleration is handled via a slide-bar on the side. Players can jump right in and after a few laps you'll finally come to grips with its unique controls. Points are scored for keeping a drift active for as long as possible, with bonus points for fast, 'impressive' and precise drifts boosting your score to help you win first place.

While there are only three tracks available, they're incredibly well detailed and players are also treated to four unlockable cars that look suitably impressive. Considering the low cost it's amazing to think that this game includes so many licensed products including band soundtracks and official support from the DMCC.

Ultimately, DMC is all about getting that massive score and the more you play the better you'll get at throwing your weight around the tracks with precision and speed, eventually bumping your name to the top of the online scoreboards. Drift Mania Championship is definitely worth checking out for racing and especially drift racing fans.
