Zombie Infection may skate the outer-edge of 'homage' very carefully, but its intense action gameplay makes this a fun experience for any shooter fan.

An outbreak of what looks to be a zombie plague is ravaging South America and you'll have to pit yourself against the horde in order to save your sibling while thwarting the evil machinations of a global corporation. While the obvious parallels to Resident Evil 5 are blatant, Zombie Infection by Gameloft is still an excellent horror shooter that's exciting and hard to put down.
The controls take their cues directly from the latest games in the RE series, using a third person over the shoulder view and first person shooter controls. Running is only possible while your weapons are lowered and aiming can be fine tuned with one thumb while firing with the other. Aiming can also be performed with the firing button, but doesn't feel quite as accurate. The interface can also be customized to your liking, making it easy to feel in control at all times.
On the surface of it you'd be hard pressed not to see the influences that Resident Evil 5 had in Zombie Infection's design, but as you press on the two games do start to draw their differences. The 3D graphics are impressive for the iPhone, with beautifully varied levels that breathe life in to each environment.
With twelve levels and multiple unlockable features including a survival mode and unique trophies to find, you'll be kept busy for some time. Zombie Infection is truly a fun experience that can't quite shake off its comparisons to the Resident Evil series, but it's still a tight action experience that shooter fans will love.
