Brawl Stars players react to massive Buffies update

Brawl Stars is getting some big changes this holiday season that will significantly impact gameplay, leading Supercell to call the update "sensitive." 

A new power called Buffies is heading to the mobile MOBA. Buffies will buff Starr Powers, Gadgets, and Hypercharges. 

Each player will have three Buffies — Gadget Buffie, Star Buffie, and Hyper Buffie — leading to some character reworks. 

How to get Buffies in Brawl Stars

Buffies have to be purchased in Brawl Stars, which will cost players 1000 Coins and 2000 Power Points via the Claw Machine. Pulling one of the 18 Bluffies from the Claw Machine is guaranteed. In the future, there will also be additional Claw Machines with new Bluffies. 

There has already been a bit of backlash to Buffies, with some players ranting that this is just "Power 12 with extra steps." 

Added one player: "Buffies is a neat idea but there's two major changes it NEEDS: Only being able to equip one buffie at a time. So you have to choose between a constant weak effect (SP), a stronger effect on a short cooldown (Gadget), or a very strong effect on a much longer cooldown (Hypercharge). 

"Two: A concistent way to get the buffie you want. Maybe have them available for direct purchase at 2x the price." 

Devs discuss adding Buffies to Brawl Stars

Developers believe that adding Buffies will have a significant impact on the game's current gameplay, which has led them to approach this update with caution. It's sitll under development and some details may change ahead of the release. 

"We understand that progression can be a sensitive topic, but with the upcoming changes, we aim to introduce a new power that is both fun and will enhance the depth of the game, especially for veteran players," developers said in a statement. "Additionally, we will buff main resource sources to make the journey more enjoyable and rewarding." 

The nearly 8 million players grinding Brawl Stars should expect the game to look pretty different going forward. Mythic and Epic Gears are getting removed and the economy is getting big changes, with new events and daily wins. 

This big change is coming in late November 2025.
