It is hard to quantify just how important the social aspect is to the Monster Hunter series, and that also goes doubly for Monster Hunter Now. What better way to get out and chase down big beasts than with a pal? Niantic is testing its latest feature to enhance the social side of things, with the Exploration Bases beta.

These Exploration Bases will act as local landmarks that all hunters in the area can contribute to. You do this by collecting Exploration Emblems and submitting exploration reports. These Emblems are found at gathering points (L) or from Hunt-a-thon and Elder Dragon Interception points.

After that, simply submit them to your chosen base as a report, and it will start to grow. Luckily, you don’t need to be within range to access your chosen base. There will be a nice button on the bottom right of the main screen that will bring up your closest one.

To add a layer of competition to this otherwise wholesome community-building experience, there will be a leaderboard of everyone who contributed to a base. Before you go all gung-ho, there is an important thing to bear in mind. After this beta test, all data related to the bases will be wiped. Enjoy the sneak peek, but don’t go overboard.

This kicks off today and will last until July 20th. To take part, you need to be at least HR 11 or above. In the final two days of the event, all bases will be besieged by 8-Star Azure Rathalos four times a day. Rewards will be dictated by your base level, so get to work. Sign-ups for this Monster Outbreak start July 12th.

Taking part in the beta test will earn you some nice rewards, such as an Exclusive Exploration Base Test Medal, just for trying out. Sign up for one of the Outbreaks and slay an Azure Rathalos, and you will also get an Exclusive Outbreak Test II Medal.

Monster Hunter Now is available from the App Store and Google Play.
