If you are looking for a game to get you out and walking, your first port of call is no doubt Pokémon Go. There is a reason it got millions of people off the couch; it is iconic. However, Talofa Games is looking to take a piece of the fitness pie with its upcoming offering, Monster Walk.

This is not the developer's first foray into this arena, mind you, with its debut effort, Run Legends, surpassing over half a million downloads. The key difference in Monster Walk, though, is that it is a creature-collecting game, much like Pokémon Go. Talofa is looking to tackle the big one.

As you explore this now walking world, you will befriend a whole heap of monsters, and marshal your favourites into a team to take on action-packed battles. You can even build a base, too, all just by getting out of your house for your daily 10k steps.

On your journeys, you will collect resources which you can spend to explore in-game, or collect, train, and bond with your new cuddly companions. Although they aren’t all cuddly. That deer from the trailer is somewhat terrifying with its antler eyes. If that's a story-critical beast, I am praying the hunter from Bambi turns up.

This resource-based mechanic does have a few benefits. For one, you don’t have to walk around staring at your phone, so there are no safety issues. Simply go for a jaunt, then spend your earnings at home. Second, you don’t need GPS to track your movement; Monster Walk just uses the steps your phone or smart watch tracks.

If you want, you can turn on the optional real-time mode to chase monsters as you move, but I prefer the original way. However you feel like playing, you can pre-order Monster Walk from the App Store and Google Play for a chance to enter early access.
