Meganoid 2 Review

Review Pascal Bestebroer By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 5 months ago
Meganoid 2 Review

Much like the original Meganoid, its sequel keeps things fast, furious and simple. Did I say simple? What I meant to say is 'it's brutal', but you'll not be able to blame the game (at least not directly) for any mistakes you make as the controls are dead easy to learn (left, right, jump, and double jump). Orange Pixel have nailed their virtual controls, which is an absolute godsend. The reason it's so helpful is because everything else about the game is entirely unforgiving. Stages a…

300 Dwarves SD Review

Review Josh Presseisen By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 5 months ago
300 Dwarves SD Review

You've got to bring something to the table when it comes to the tower defense genre, be it cleverly designed or endlessly replayable stages; unique tower combinations and effects; or a twist on the concept that's rarely seen, or possibly even entirely unique. Despite the best efforts of Nimbi Studios, 300 Dwarves gets lost in the crowd, opting for more of a unique visual theme than anything truly novel. You and your fellow dwarves are besieged by the green-skinned menace rampaging thr…

Totem Runner Review

Review EA Chillingo By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 5 months ago
Totem Runner Review

Credit where due, Totem Runner by Yagoda Productions and Chillingo isn't just a beautiful game, it's a beautiful concept too. Despite joining the throng of auto-runners already available, the primarily passive play style, combined with tightly designed stages, make it a refreshing casual distraction. We're jumping ahead though, so lets get back to basics. You play as a mystic (with distinctly Mayan overtones) who is braving the darkness sweeping the world. By harnessing the power of l…

Top 3 iOS Games for October 2012

Toplist By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 5 months ago
Top 3 iOS Games for October 2012

For many, October means little more than 'the month before the AAA titles release'. While this is certainly true for most other platforms, the App Store is still churning out title after title, with many proving to be extremely entertaining (if not downright insanely addictive). So lets check out the month that was with AppSpy's Top 3 iOS Games for October, 2012. Girls Like Robots (Adult Swim Popcannibal) $2.99 Univ.I've learned many things from Girls Like Robots by Popcannibal and Adult Swim; for instance girls apparently love robots, while robots don't mind girls, but hate being trapped by them... OK maybe that's the only thing that really stands out, but darn it there's so much…

Atari Outlaw™ Review

Review Atari By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 5 months ago
Atari Outlaw™ Review

Atari sure now how to hold on to an idea. Outlaw has been kicking around since 1976 and while the original was more of a reaction tester, the iOS update has kept things simple by returning to the classic gallery shooter genre. Enemies slide on in to position, either from the side or from behind some cover, and slowly take aim before firing volleys of shots at you until you either keel over or shoot them down. As fast as your six-shooter may be you'll need to move up to higher caliber…

Green Rage Review

Review Paralline By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 6 months ago
Green Rage Review

Green Rage by Paralline exists in that horrible stasis of gaming where poor gameplay mixes with brilliant presentation. All you're tasked with is to guide an alien, beset at all sides by dangers as he searches for his lost companions, but these challenges will prove overwhelming time and time again. This is thanks, in no small part, to the controls feeling entirely insufficient for the task at hand. A virtual stick allows you to move (very slowly) throughout the stage, while three but…

Need for Speed™ Most Wanted Review

Review Electronic Arts By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 6 months ago
Need for Speed™ Most Wanted Review

If Electronic Arts is demonstrating anything with Need for Speed Most Wanted for the iOS platform, it's an interest in stripping back their racers to the core experience. For some this may be an absolute boon - mobile platforms are often used in short bursts, so things like a story and too many fiddly customizations are simply a distraction compared to the main feast of burning rubber down city and country roads alike. Unfortunately Most Wanted goes even further than that and instead…

Nutty Fluffies Rollercoaster Review

Review Ubisoft By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 6 months ago
Nutty Fluffies Rollercoaster Review

There's something about the iOS platform and roller-coasters that just seems to 'work'. Be it tilting to keep passengers inside or flicking to avoid animals on a rampage, there's an almost innate reaction to the peril suffered by those locked on the rails that makes you want to save them. RedLynx goes one further and packs their coasters with cute stuffed animals, though it's hard to say whether the squeaking passengers help or hinder in this regard. Still, this isn't the company's fi…

ARC Squadron Review

Review Psyonix By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 6 months ago
ARC Squadron Review

Developer Psyonix is no stranger to the Unreal Engine having worked with Epic Games on Unreal Tournament 2004 to create Onslaught mode. As such it's no surprise to see their latest release sporting the game engine in ARC Squadron, bringing out its full beautiful potential, but most importantly, creating a fun shoot'em-up too. Immediate comparisons draw upon the likes of games such as Star Fox, though the elegant control scheme of automatically firing while swiping to move and dodge lo…

N.Y.Zombies 2 Review

Review Foursaken Media By Andrew Nesvadba, 11 years, 6 months ago
N.Y.Zombies 2 Review

N.Y.Zombies 2 by Foursaken Media is the sort of game that makes you glad that a developer is willing to listen to their fans. Building upon the original in just about every way, it's still a flawed experience, but one that manages to exploit the mixed state of realism and fantasy. No lengthy story set up is needed - zombies are here and you need to survive. What follows is a series of missions that follow a fairly basic story filled with protecting survivors and attempting to escape t…
