Learn how to play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite with AppSpy - Part 19

As we roll into episode 19 of our ongoing series playing Monster Hunter Freedom Unite for iOS, James and I find ourselves once again in good company. The AppSpy community is here to help us beat the flipping flip out of any creatures stood in our way, and we're more than happy to reap the rewards. There's a particularly cool bit of armour on display in this episode, as well as a ridiculously awesome conch shell weapon, plus the usual end-of-the-week chat, so get stuck in. It's okay if you've missed a couple of episodes, as you can catch up via our playlist.…

7 ridiculously hard stages from Geometry Dash

Geometry Dash is a hard game, and features some absurdly challenging levels in it that will prove tough to even the most patient, dedicated, and skilful of hardcore video gamers. Seriously, some of the stages are stupidly, ridiculously, supremely difficult, and take ages to complete, let alone master. But just how hard is hard? I've collected a bunch of video evidence off of that Everyplay, and attempt to convey just how hard these levels are. Hard. Harder than hard. Harder than that. Harder than working out a very hard equation. Harder than a hard boiled egg that went to the school of hard knocks. Harder than 40 hard men from Chard, who have done hard time in prison for b…

Hands-on with Knituma, in which a bear is knitting a lovely scarf

With winter setting in, we usually turn our attentions to keeping warm. Personally I've been shopping for a nice cosy hat, and some spangly new gloves to do exactly that. Yet no winter outfit would be complete without a scarf, and indeed no scarf could possibly be cooler than one knitted by a bear. If only I knew a bear like the one in Knituma: one obsessed with adding as many balls of wool as possible to the scarf they're knitting, so that the scarf stretches out to thousands of kilometres in length.…

Chicky Duo trailer is full of 'awwwwww'

Chicky Duo is Kurechii's latest jam: an iPad adventure game in which two chicks set off on a quest to save their mother. To do so, the chicks will have to work together to solve a variety of puzzles and move their way through a completely charming looking landscape, in a story set over several chapters. It really does look very lovely, as you'll see from the gameplay trailer below. Chicky Duo will be released on iPad on the 20th of November, it'll cost $2.99.…

Seven Sacred Beasts crosses a monster battler with a hardcore JRPG, Kemco slashes price for its Android launch

Kemco's latest RPG Seven Sacred Beasts is out now on Android, and at half price - a tempting $3.99 - for its initial release. Seven Sacred Beasts looks like a monster-filled mash up of Pokemon and Final Fantasy, with lots of monsters to collect, level up, evolve, and battle, plus the usual JRPG melodramatics about dark knights and secret identities, all presented in a Super Nintendo era visual style. Sound good? Go grab it via the link below. [Google Play link]…

Tales from the Borderlands gets 'Welcome Back to Pandora (Again)' trailer

Tales from the Borderlands gets 'Welcome Back to Pandora (Again)' trailer

The AppSpy team was seriously wondering how the Borderlands universe would actually work as a point and click adventure, but from the brand new trailer for Telltale Games' Tales from the Borderlands, it looks like the answer could be "brilliantly". The trailer - titled 'Welcome Back to Pandora (Again)' - places the dark humour of the series front and centre, and while there are still no details of how the action scenes will work (we've been promised gun play), the sense of a grand adventure on a truly horrible planet is palpable. Tales from the Borderlands is coming to iOS (plus PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, and Xbox One) in the near future. We'll…

Hands-on with Wars and Battles, in which hex-based strategy war gaming is actually way more entertaining than it sounds

Hands-on with Wars and Battles, in which hex-based strategy war gaming is actually way more entertaining than it sounds

These super involved strategy games that play out on hexagonal tiles are often a real drag, and I just can't find much energy to get into them. But Wars and Battles is a bit different. It's no less serious and po-faced than the other games on the market, but once you've got the hang of the simple controls, you stop faffing about fiddling and instead start thinking tactically about your approach to the varied situations you're given. Wars and Battles is pretty cool by my book, here's what it looks like in motion.…

Hands-on with Checkpoint Champion, a game of drifting, boosting, and beating your peers

Hands-on with Checkpoint Champion, a game of drifting, boosting, and beating your peers

While I'm not very good at Checkpoint Champion - on account of it being very hard indeed - I am better than at least one of my colleagues, and that is more than enough for me. Checkpoint Champion is a twitchy drift-em-up where you race from one checkpoint to the next, trying to shave fractions of seconds off of your previous time to really stick it in the craw of your friends and loved ones. It's pretty good too, as you can see in my hands-on video below.…

Hands-on with Candy Crush Soda Saga, a very fizzy match-3 puzzler

What do you think you'd get from a huge developer making a pseudo-sequel to one of the most popular and financially successful video games of all time? More levels? Sure. More game mechanics? Definitely. Improved presentation? One would hope so. That's all present and correct in Candy Crush Soda Saga, King's follow up to Candy Crush Saga, but is there much else to get excited about if you've already had your fill of candies? Watch my hands-on to find out.…

Hands-on with Million’s Lovers - Tricks, Likes, Treats, where an adorable dog does tricks on command

Million's Lovers - Tricks, Likes, Treats is an auto-runner, there's no getting away from that. If you're sick of endless runners, then this probably won't bring you back to the fold. But it adds two very important things into the mix for those that aren't yet done with the genre. The first is a QTE style input system for performing tricks as a dog, which keeps you on your paws. It's a flexible system, and the controls work well for it, but there's still a lot of tension in getting it right, since if you screw up too often you fail the level. The second is an incredible art style, one highly evocative of games like Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. It looks amazing in motion, and ser…

Hands-on with Golfinity, the game of infinite golf, obvs

How much golfing on your mobile do you think you could potentially handle? Some? A lot? Loads? How about an infinite amount of golf. Yeah, what about that? Huh? If that sounds like your cup of tee, Golfinity is absolutely for you. It's a fantastically minimal golf-em-up, with ace controls, solid leaderboard support, and obviously plenty of content. Check out my hands-on with the game below.…

These are the 7 very best 'playable' Angry Birds cakes on the Internet

These are the 7 very best 'playable' Angry Birds cakes on the Internet

I was looking for Angry Birds cakes to put together a little video article like last week's Minecraft cakestravaganza, but along the way I noticed that a whole bunch of the videos showing them off described them as "playable". Completely fascinated, I fell down a rabbit hole of cake-based YouTube awesomeness, and found that lots of cake makers have decided that just eating a delicious baked treat isn't enough - now they want you to be able to play with your food. Intrigued? Take a look at these super sweet cakes, courtesy of YouTubers electricpigtv, Ivan Alexander, EvanTubeHD, Brad Simmons, vallauryne, Richard Houghton, and Veronica Yang. electricpigtv Ivan Alexander EvanTubeHD B…

Munch Time 2 teaser reveals huge new world, confirms more tongue-based open world action

Gamistry's just popped over the teaser trailer for Munch Time 2, the sequel to its original action adventure starring a chameleon with one incredible tongue. You use this tongue to zip about the various areas, solving puzzles and thwacking baddies, and exploring this 2D open world - as you might do in any other Metroidvania. As with similar titles in the genre, there's an experience system and additional skills to learn in here that will help you explore further. Take a look at the trailer, embedded below.…

Agent, Run! trailer asks you to run, agent

Agent, Run! is an endless runner, but instead of focusing on your agent avoiding obstacles - such as shark-infested tanks, barricaded security doors, and walking robots of doom - instead you must disable these hazards with a flick of the screen. You take on the role of Agent Robert Robertson who is attempting to thwart Professor E. Vil, across a couple of different gameplay modes and four different areas (the first of which comes free), all the while completing missions set out by the game and attempting to climb to the top of the online leaderboards. Agent, Run! is out now on iOS and Android, you can get it via the links below. [App Store link][Google Play link]…
