Relive Past Glories In Street Fighter II: The Collection On iPhone

Relive Past Glories In Street Fighter II: The Collection On iPhone

Jeeez, those animated Street Fighters just can't stay out of the news, innit. After Capcom karate kicked Street Fighter IV: Volt's price down to $4.99 last Friday and welcomed a pair of new combatants into the fray, Ryu and Ken are muscling in on the App Store market again. For many in the early '90s, Street Fighter II was the only reason they'd brave their local murky, fetid arcades. For many more, Street Fighter II lit the blue touch paper under the beat-'em-genre, taking them out of the shadows and into the mainstream for the first time. None of that necessarily matters any more, for you don't even have to leave the comfort of your bed to engage in a spot of 1-on-1 brawling, Street Fi…

Capcom have simultaneously dropped the price and upped the roster of its 5/5 App Store brawler Steet Fighter IV: Volt. The two newest burly bruisers to step into Capcom's deadly arena are film star Fei Long and martial artist Yun, taking the total number of playable characters up to an impressive 22. The Japanese studio has also made a bunch of improvements to the game's multiplayer modes, starting with a new Friend Request button. Tweaks to make sure there are no disruptions during wi-fi play and a new 'GoodFight' post-match praise option have also been added. Gameloft's Fast-Paced Street Racer Asphalt 6: Adrenaline Drops Down A Few Gears To Free

Gameloft have slashed the price of its high-octane racer Asphalt 6: Adrenaline from $4.99 to completely free. The latest entry in the French publisher's street-racing franchise packs over 42 cars and bikes, which can be driven through the game's 11 racing leagues and 55 events. If you prefer destroying your friends to computer-controlled opponents, you can battle up to five of your buddies in both online and local multiplayer modes. And, when you've successfully beaten all available opposition, you can even take some time out, visit your garage, and explore your collection of high-powered beasts using your device's gyroscope. We gave the game a rather impressive 4/5 at review, so what th…

Halbrick's Jetpack Joyride Gets Updated With New Vehicles and Playable Character

Australian developer Halfbrick's rather excellent Jetpack Joyride has been updated with some wacky new extras, as well as some almost mandatory bug fixes and tweaks. The foul-mouthed Barry Steakfries can now pilot two brand-new vehicles, including the ironically named Mr. Cuddles (a giant robot dragon), and the fruit jetpack. The latter is a nod to Halfbrick's smash hit slice-'em-up Fruit Ninja, and sprays the ground with fruit and juice as you speed past hazards. Barry is also joined by new character Honest Phil: an 'awesome Australian dude' based on Halfbrick's real-life CMO Phil Larsen. You can grab this 5/5 title from the App Store right now for just 99c.…

Game On: Catching Up With The Voxel Agents and Halfbrick

The Brisbane chapter of IGDA (International Game Developers Association) recently held an evening of questions and answers, bringing together three members from prominent development studios in Australia to talk to students about their experiences in the industry. Tom Killen and Henrik Pettersson from The Voxel Agents and Luke Muscat from Halfbrick were more than ready and willing to discuss topics ranging from the casual such as 'What games do you like to play now?' to more serious points regarding how to sell yourself as an Indie developer. The chat is only one such event in the year-long 'Game On' season organized by IGDA Brisbane. Co-reviewer Dave Flodine and I couldn't pass up an opp…

Snoopy's Street Fair is the latest attempt at a freemium money-maker from Capcom's mobile arm Beeline, and it's set to hit the App Store this November. Featuring theme music from the original cartoons and the official voice actors, Beeline's follow-up to the insanely successful Smurfs' Village sees you running a small street fair and generating enough wonga to buy the Peanuts gang some fancy new Baseball uniforms. Through the course of play, you will be able to construct an array of stalls, such as Sally's Lemonade Stand and Lucy's Psychiatrist Service, and unlock a series of classic Peanuts comic strips.  Various costumes for Snoopy will unlock a selection of mini-games and will als…

Tiger Style Release First Gameplay Footage From Upcoming iPhone Sci-Fi Platformer Lost Mars

Developer Tiger Style have followed up their batch of teasing screenshots with some gameplay footage from their upcoming iPhone side-scroller Lost Mars, which reveals some new and exciting tidbits of information about the game's action. Your mission is to traverse a series of outer space caves using a handy jetpack, collect seeds, and use them to spread alien life throughout the game's many underground caverns. You'll navigate the perilous caves using a simple one-touch control scheme that elevates the game's protagonist in the direction of your taps. "One part METROID, one part 1970s-era sci-fi film, and one part ...gardening?!" finally makes a little sense. Check out the footage…

NaturalMotion's NFL Rivals Runs A 3rd Quarter Slant-And-Go Onto the iPhone

NaturalMotion's latest attempt at creating an authentic American-football experience has rounded the opposition's defence and sprinted into the App Store's end zone, complete with 32 licensed NFL teams. After selecting your favourite bunch of pad-clad players (the New England Patriots, natch), you're tasked with scoring as many TDs as you possibly can, by juking, trucking, jumping, spinning, and generally avoiding the oncoming waves of burly tacklers. Each successful attempt at glory earns you points, which elevate the real-world team of your choosing to the top of the NFL Rivals global rankings. Playing in sync with your team's real NFL schedule will grant you extra bonus points. If you…

Classic Amiga Game Another World Hitting iPhone On 22nd September

In artistic and cultural circles, the term 'Renaissance' denotes a specific era during which my two favourite Ninja Turtles Leonardo and Michelangelo flourished. More generally speaking, the word 'renaissance' refers to a rebirth. With the recent news that Bullfrog's influential Theme Park is coming to an App Store town near you, you'd be forgiven for thinking iPhone users had witnessed their fair share of rebirths lately. Well, that depends on your definition of 'fair share' really, doesn't it. I'm all for nostalgia, you see, so am delighted to report that Eric Chahi's 1991 cinematic platformer / adventure game Another World is hitting the iPhone touchscreen on 22nd September. Publishe…

Jetpack Joyride Soundtrack Now Available

If you're like me, you probably can't get that fantastic soundtrack from Jetpack Joyride (5/5) out of your head after a quick run through and nothing short of hearing it again will help to scratch that itch. Thankfully you can now get your fill of the fine work by Cedar Jones as Halfbrick have uploaded the soundtrack (along with some juicy bonus tracks) to their Bandcamp page. While you're there you can also check out the music from their earlier titles (for me it was like a treasure-trove of delights!), from Echoes to Raskulls. The only problem I have now is making sure I don't listen to the soundtrack while driving 'cause I might just get a bit distracted ;) (Jetpack Joyride Soundtrack…

Sonic 20th Anniversary Companion iPhone App Hits App Store

To celebrate the fact that it's been two decades since Sonic first graced our screens, Sega has released a Sonic 20th Anniversary companion iPhone app. Along with access to the Blue Blur's latest news and a bunch of downloadable wallpapers, the app offers two playable games. The first of these, Sonic the Sketchhog, is a Canabalt-alike title that challenges you with avoiding enemies, pits, and other hazards. The second game is a special Lite edition of Sonic The Hedgehog 4, Episode 1, which we gave an impressive 4/5 at review. And just so you know, this short trial version isn't currently available anywhere else on the App Store. Sonic 20th Anniversary is a free title, so you might as we…
