These 6 trailers prove that Android is the place for JRPGs in 2015

For years discerning gaming journalists and fans alike have prophesied the tragic death of a formerly untouchable genre - one that we all grew up with and share our finest gaming memories with. That's right, the JRPG, which is apparently dead, buried, and almost forgotten. Well, it turns out it isn't dead - it's just hiding on Android, where it will be re-emerging in 2015. Check out the trailers below for video evidence of this sleeping giant. Wizard Golf Shadowgate Breath of Fire 6 Project Phoenix Chaos Rings 3 Pier Solar and the Great Architects…

Sticko may get you out of a sticky situation this Christmas

Sticko is being pitched as essentially the solution to all of life's problems - so long as all your problems are to do with multi-tasking while using your mobile. It's a pair of suction cups that stick to your phone and just about any surface. Imagine you're trying to have a phone call while washing the dishes (which is normally a two handed job). Thwack a Sticko thingy on that phone of yours, set it at mouth level, and Bob's your uncle: you're talking to your nan while elbow deep in Fairy. Best Christmas present ever? No, not by a long shot. Neat novelty item to get a phone-obsessed co-worker for their Secret Santa gift? Damn right. You can grab a Sticko here.…

Game Workshop gives Chainsaw Warrior the sequel treatment in Lords of the Night

It's Friday, AppSpies, and do we have a treat for you. The adaptation of possibly the most testosterone-fuelled board game ever, Game Workshop's Chainsaw Warrior, is getting the sequel treatment. Chainsaw Warrior is a mobile and PC adaptation of the classic 1987 board game of the same name, with both generally involving you rolling dice to destroy zombies and other monsters in the most creatively brutal way possible. The sequel features an upgraded combat system, new weapons, upgrades, powers, and equipment, all of which can no doubt be used to duff up those poor hordes of hungry zombies. Speaking of the walking dead, there'll be a few new moudly mini-bosses to slay and three new…

Here's a sneak peek at upcoming EA Mobile racer Need for Speed No Limits

EA Mobile has announced that it's releasing a brand new mobile Need For Speed 'soon'. That means you can quite safely expect it to look great, play okay, and require much tilting of your respective devices as you drive at dangerous speeds in an urban environment. The game is, rather unsurprisingly, in development by Firemonkeys - famed for releasing one of the most expensive free games to hit a mobile device ever - Real Racing 3. If you're feeling the need for speed yourself, why not watch the ridiculous trailer in which Ken Block does what he does best - driving a car really, really fast.…

Sex Pistols rocker Johnny Rotten admits to blowing £10,000 on F2P iPad games

Feeling a little silly for spending so much of your hard-earned dosh on supposedly ‘free-to-play’ iPad games? Well allow us to assuage that feeling by bringing you the news that John Lydon, AKA Johnny Rotten, has supposedly spent a whopping £10,000 on IAPs in the last two years. The former Sex Pistols star and face of the Country Life adverts spoke to the Telegraph about his recent extravagance, and claimed that “(he) just wanted to up the ante”. “And like an idiot I didn't check myself. I've been checked now. But there's a kid in me, see? A bit of my childhood was taken from me and I'm determined to bring it back." Lydon can safely consider the ante up…

Pixeljam updates Glorkian Warrior: Trials of Glork with tilt controls and GameCenter achievements

Glorkian Warrior: Trials of Glork has been updated with a brand new tilt control scheme, rounding out an already sizeable range of control choices. Pixeljam also took the liberty of adding GameCenter achievements, which should please Glorkian Warriors looking to show off their skills, or those simply looking for more meaningful progression. The game has been localized in Italian, French, Spanish, and German as part of this update. We were quite taken with Glorkian Warrior: Trials of Glork, giving it four stars. At review, we said "It is okay to judge Glorkian Warrior: Trials Of Glork by its appearance - this is a solid shooter elevated above the competition by its comic presentati…

Make your iPhone a microphone with upcoming SingStar companion app

SingStar will be making its PS4 debut later this year. Rather excitingly for iOS users, however, is news of the companion app which will launch alongside the new game allowing players to use their iPhone as a microphone. The best part? Beyond the convenience of whipping out your mobile and lauching into a rendition of Gold, a microphone will be displayed on your device's screen, making you feel like a true pop star. The app will work with both PS3 and PS4 versions of SingStar, and will be useable on any of your iOS devices - though we imagine the best experience will be on your smaller iPhone. The companion app will be released alongside SingStar later this year as a free download from th…

Long-awaited sequel Battleheart Legacy set to strike the App Store next week

Way back in 2011, a gem of an iOS RPG was released featuring an intuitive touch control scheme, colourful and charming cartoon visuals, and a deep skill system. That game was Battleheart, and we rather liked it, giving it 4 stars at review. Battleheart Legacy is the long-awaited sequel to that game. And, judging from the official trailer below, it appears that the excellent control scheme and skill system have remained intact. Surprisingly, the move to 3D hasn't really affected the visual style much at all, with the colourful cast of characters reminiscent of those in the original. The game's charm and sense of humour appears to be present and correct, too. However, while the game's st…

GungHo merging Puzzle & Dragons with Saint Seiya in upcoming crossover game

GungHo has announced that Puzzle & Dragons is getting a crossover title with Japanese manga and anime series Saint Seiya. The proposed game has no release date as of yet, but we do know that characters from the recent Saint Seiya movie Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary will make an appearance. This follows news earlier in the week that Puzzle & Dragons is getting another crossover title with an anime hit, Dragon Ball Kai. Judging from the poster above it would appear that the game will contain traditional Puzzle and Dragons gameplay but set in the world of Dragon Ball Kai. Again, no release date has been confirmed. There have been a few successful Puzzle & Dragons crossovers…

Bandai Namco honours PAC-MAN's 34th birthday with Mayhem Maze update

PAC-MAN turned 34 this year, and to celebrate Bandai Namco has released the Mayhem Maze pack, available now from the App Store. The pack contains three new mazes, available in both the paid-release PAC-MAN and the free PAC-MAN Lite. Each of the new mazes - Cloudy, Dazzle, and Square Dance - contains 20 stages which should pose a challenge for even the most hardened PAC-MAN expert. According to Bandai Namco, the new mazes offer 'non-traditional complex mazes', which suggests a possible new spin on the old formula. The Mayhem Maze pack is available as an IAP within either versions of the game and is priced at £1.49 / $1.99. Head on over to the App Store to get yourself a copy in hon…

Tetris and Scrabble inspired puzzler Crobble is out now on iPhone

If you've ever felt that Scrabble just isn't lively enough, or that Tetris doesn't contain enough words, Crobble may be the game for you. Released yesterday on the App Store, Crobble aims to blend the best of both classic puzzlers. You tap on a series of falling lettered-tiles to create words, at which point the letters disappear and net you points. There's a point goal which must be reached in order to pass the level. As with Tetris block, however, if your pileof letters reaches the top of the screen, your game is over. More points can be won by collecting power ups or using modifier tiles. Bombs also fall, so make sure to blow them up to create precious space for more letters. T…

Smashing-looking table tennis sim Table Tennis Touch out now on the App Store

Table tennis has never looked this good before. At least, not on the App Store, where Table Tennis Touch has launched today at a price of £2.49 / $3.99. Though at first, that tag may seem pretty hefty, it's actually incredibly generous when you find out just how much content is on offer. First-off, there's a lengthy and difficult career mode which developer Yakuto Limited has promised offers opponents "so hard you may never win, ever." If challenge is your thing, you can't go wrong here, then. Maybe mini-games are more your style? Table Tennis Touch has you covered here with timed challenges - pitting your ball-manoeuvring skills against moving obstacles, smaller tables, and skitt…

Unpossible review "While Unpossible is a handsome beast, and does offer some initial thrills, the disconnect between your unseen avatar and its hazardous surroundings left us cold." Unleash the elemental power of Mankind in The Sandbox's new Ecology Campaign update

Mother Nature simulator The Sandbox has received a new update which adds a brand new campaign featuring 20 extra levels, and a handful of new elements. The 20 new levels- which form the Ecology Campaign -  task you with solving environmental puzzles in order to protect the very planet whose elements you've been manipulating. Examples include preventing deforestation, and combatting pollution. Also included are 13 new elements to help you in your fight for world peace. Oddly enough, 'The Nuke' is one of these elements. How exactly that can be used to protect the environment remains to be seen. You'll be unlocking mana as you go, an in-game currency which is used to purchase differen…
