Apple Schedules 'Let's talk iPhone' Event For 4th October

Apple Schedules 'Let's talk iPhone' Event For 4th October

Apple has invited several members of the press to a special "Let's Talk iPhone" event on October 4th, which can only mean one thing: an official announcement of at least one new iPhone. Strangely, the event is being held at Apple's Cupertino campus rather than in San Francisco - the venue for all previous iPhone and iPad launches. It's still unknown whether we'll see the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4S, or both at the unveiling, though you can probably rule out an iPad 3. We can safely assume that the highly anticipated iOS 5 software update will also receive a slice of the attention next Tuesday, with some new details and a more definite release date presumably forthcoming. Hopefully.…

SHADOWGUN Review

SHADOWGUN Review

Sure, we've had shooters before on the App Store and they've been received with mixed amounts of love and hate. Some of the best have gone on to become shrines of multiplayer fun, but the single-player experience has often been lacking as you're left with the usual draw-by-numbers war-torn battlefield formula. SHADOWGUN by MADFINGER Games, better known for their Samurai series have busted out with a gorgeous cover-based shooter in an attempt to break this routine. Sadly it stumbles fr…

Reckless Getaway Update Adds New Chapter, Extra Car and Tracks

If you rob a bank, speed along highways, and ram unsuspecting police cars in real life, you'll probably end up paying through the nose in legal fees. Luckily, if you grab Reckless Getaway from Apple's App Store, the above mayhem will only cost you $2.99. Huzzah! Even more luckily, Reckless Getaway has just been updated by Polarbit, who have thrown in a brand-new chapter, an extra automobile, and some additional tracks. Reckless Getaway managed to grab itself a excellent 4/5 at review, so speed on over to the App Store, get your racing gloves on, and get behind that wheel.…

The Sims™ Medieval Review

The Sims™ Medieval Review

The Sims has always been a strange beast. Just the initial concept of taking over someone else's life and guiding them through the mundane tasks that make up our own existence takes on kind of a sinister tone when you think about it. Of course if you think a little more, the RPG genre is all about taking over another person's life, and if you grind enough, monster slaying can become as monotonous as attending a nine to five job and having to cook yourself dinner every night. It's kind…

Haraka Review

Haraka Review

When you dive in to the 'classic' archives for inspiration, Pong regularly comes up as a concept that begs for re-imagining. While some have taken a literal approach to the task and others have taken far more abstract paths, Haraka by Studio Joho and Mental Drink only retains the one on one ball-bouncing aspect of the game and still manages to dredge up Atari-soaked memories of the past. Haraka divides the screen in half, giving each player a portrait oriented court they must defend.…

Action-Adventure Bullet Time Shoots Onto iPhone In November

Action-Adventure Bullet Time Shoots Onto iPhone In November

The only major gripe Andrew had with Danish studio Kiloo's otherwise ace Frisbee Forever concerned the game's in-app purchase system. If you have any ambitions on unlocking the later levels, you see, and thereby completing the Frisbee Forever experience, you're gonna need to commit either some serious wonga or some serious time. For the sake of those with limited attention spans and an overdraft, let's all hope that Kiloo's forthcoming action-adventure game Bullet Time adopts a different business model. Subtitled 'The Tale of John Irish', Bullet Time is set in a Terminator-style post-apocalyptic world in which your family have been abducted and razor blades are at a premium. Unsurprising…

Idyllic! Review

For a while after first playing Idyllic, we here at AppSpy were a little confused. Yes the visuals of this bizarre alien landscape combined with the amazing music indeed painted an idyllic picture, but then there was the gameplay. Every time the character we controlled touched one of the islands, the island itself would burst from gloomy blues into earthy greens and browns, but the trees would be destroyed, leaving only leaf-less husks. Was our character bringing life back to this alie…

HECTOR: Ep3 – Beyond Reasonable Doom Review

Review Telltale Inc By Dave Flodine, 3 years ago
HECTOR: Ep3 – Beyond Reasonable Doom Review

It becomes increasingly difficult to review episodic games like Hector and other releases from Telltale because all the episodes of a series are planned together, so there's usually not much difference in quality of presentation, writing or gameplay. Hector – Beyond Reasonable Doom is the third and final installment in this series based on the world's worst police officer. Like episode one, the previous game left on a cliffhanger, with both Hector and Lambert finding out the ide…

Burn the Rope Worlds Review

Burn the Rope Worlds Review

It's been closing in on a year since the original Burn the Rope was released in December of 2010. Now developers Big Blue Bubble have released Burn the Rope: Worlds. Packed with heaps of new content and a new game mode, does this title light a fire under what made the original great, or does it fizzle out? The gameplay is identical to the original release. Tapping anywhere on the rope of the level will start a fire. These fires burn upwards, and go out if not moving, so you need to co…

Tiny Heroes Review

Tiny Heroes Review

Tower defense games are a dime a dozen these days. With that being the case it's often hard to be excited about yet another addition to the genre. Tiny Heroes is not the first TD game to switch the dynamic around, putting you in the shoes of the villains and having you defeat incoming heroes, but it presents itself with enough solid gameplay and charm to have a fighting chance. Each level begins with a new dungeon resting between the waves of heroes and your treasure room. Before the…
