6 wince-inducing crotch busting shots from Gingerbread Stickman Shooting Showdown

There's a dedicated community of gamers playing Gingerbread Stickman Shooting Showdown looking to perfect their aim with a bow and arrow. Most of them are trying to shoot the little gingerbread man on the top of the stickman's head, but some of them aren't. Some of them are trying to shoot the stickman in the crotch, attempting (no doubt) to ellicit the most painful yelp they possibly can, and then capturing the moment for eternity and publishing it on Everyplay. Each to their own, here are the six best... Blam, right in the jewels. Ouch. Owowowowowowowowow. Oh my goodness. These are starting to make me feel a bit ill now. That's really gonna smart in the morning. Found…

Hands-on with Polyform, the game which lets you grope a Rubiks cube in space

Hands-on with Polyform, the game which lets you grope a Rubiks cube in space

Okay, so that title may not be entirely accurate. Polyform is a game about cubes - specifically, a cluster of multi-coloured cubes floating in the cosmos. It's your job to add similarly coloured cubes to this weightless congregation of angles, and vapourise segments of the structure block by block. So yeah, it's a colour-matching puzzler. However, the 3D twist turns it into something a little different, and kinda cool. Check out the video above to see what I mean.…

Hands-on with Papers, Please, the excellent and sobering border control nightmare

You probably already know about Papers, Please. Critics and players alike gave been singing the game's praises ever since it arrived on PCs late last year. Thankfully for iOS players, this fascinating and troubling glimpse into the life of a border control officer located on the perimiter of a fictional, totalitarian state is now live on the App Store. I went hands-on with the iPad build to see whether the mobile version has crossed the App Store borders in tact.…

Hands-on with Tales from the Borderlands, the sassy, tappy Telltale adventure series

There's no escaping Telltale at the moment. With the debut episode of its new Game of Thrones series hitting iOS last week, you'd think they'd let iPhone and iPad owners catch their breath before unleashing another IP onto the mobile platform. Instead, the team barely paused to sip a martini and light a cigar with a $100 bill before unleashing Tales from the Borderlands onto the App Store. For those not in the know, the game is a narrative-driven take on Gearbox's hugely successful shooter franchise. To see what such a thing might look like, just check out the video above.…

The top 5 best seeds for Minecraft - Pocket Edition's latest update

Minecraft - Pocket Edition was crowned the top selling iPhone and iPad game in this year's iTunes Best of 2014 chart, So, it stands to reason that most of you iOS users will have played the blocky sensation at some point. It is regularly top of the best-selling game section on Google Play as well, so Androiders should also be well-versed in its ways by now. Anyway, onto these seeds. Marvel fans, we know you'll be too busy playing Contest of Champions to read this. Everyone else - get to the App Store right now. It sees you gathering a team of popular heroes and villains to complete quests, level up, and, ultimately, beat up Kang the Conqueror - a mysterious new super villain. We got all handsy with it recently, so if you're unsure about heading over to the App Store [download] right away, why not watch this video first? Can't hurt, can it? Exactly.…

Hands-on with Snowboard Party, the thrill-seeking stunt racer which is all about the XP

Hands-on with Snowboard Party, the thrill-seeking stunt racer which is all about the XP

I'm in two minds about Snowboard Party. On the one hand, the game is a surprisingly slick mobile interpretation of the SSX-style stunt racers popularised on consoles during the last decade. However, given the emphasis the game places on earning XP to unlock everything from tracks to characters to boards, I'm a little concerned about how long it takes to progress, and how obviously the IAPs are pushed - especially considering this is a premium release. Check out my hands-on to see what I'm talking about. …

5 stupendous Angry Birds cakes that will make you say 'Mum, I want one of these for my next birthday, not a boring tray cake from Marks and Sparks again'

5 stupendous Angry Birds cakes that will make you say 'Mum, I want one of these for my next birthday, not a boring tray cake from Marks and Sparks again'

Last time we looked at video game cakes featuring Rovio's plucky bird brains, we focused on the “playable” ones. They're awesome, obviously, but for some people the thought of making a cake is hard enough, let alone making it a full Angry Birds level you can fling birds at. So I've gathered together a load of examples of cakes that are a little more static, but just as cool. The five videos you can see below represent the pinnacle of what YouTube has to offer when it comes to Angry Birds-themed cakes, featuring guides and demonstrations by brilliant YouTubers Rosanna Pansino, Cakes StepByStep, CakesByChoppA, MyCupcakeAddiction, and LauraPoopie. AppSpy's top 6 games to make you rage

Nitrome's Roller Polar is this week's incredibly addictive festive treat - but it isn't half frustrating. It essentially does what Flappy Bird did so infamously last year, but improves on the visuals and sound and even throws some mechanics into the work for good measure. Just for you lovely folks, I've braved the App Store and Google Play store to find the most frustrating, rage-inducing games. Have a stressball at the ready if you plan on playing any of these, as we will not be responsible for the broken furniture. You have been warned. 1. Swing Copters  Combine an incredibly frustrating concept with imprecise and, well, rubbish controls and you get S…

Hands-on with Sneaky Sneaky, the utterly gorgeous top-down stealth-'em-up

I love a bit of stealth. I often answer the doorbell by climbing out my bedroom window, repelling down the side of the house, then choking the postman out and recovering my Tesco clubcard vouchers before anyone knows I was even there. So what better game to start my day with than Sneaky Sneaky, an utterly gorgeous and extremely charming stealth game which is primed to hit the App Store at midnight tonight. Check out my hands-on video to see why you should add this one to your wishlist. [App Store link]…

Hands-on with Storm Rush, the super glowy, super twitchy racer

Hands-on with Storm Rush, the super glowy, super twitchy racer

Nothing gets the adrenaline pumping quite like a twitch racer. You've no time to think, no time to plan ahead - you rely entirely on instinct, like a frightened doormouse fleeing an alpha predator. In the case of Storm Rush you're not a doormouse, but a non-specific floating entity trying to avoid glowing towers of energy falling from the top of the screen. Not quite as threatening as a chasing cheetah, perhaps, but it got my pulse up nonetheless. See me playing Storm Rush - which is out right now for iPhone and iPad - in the video above.…

AppSpy's top 5 favourite games from iTunes Best of 2014

December is becoming a pretty eventful month. You've got Christmas, New Year, and now the regular release of iTunes Best of 2014 list. This year's winners in particular were relatively predictable, with only the most impressive and popular releases taking home the plaudits. Rather than having you sit and stare at boring words all day, we figured it would be best to compile a list of fun videos and trailers of the best-selling apps and games on this year's list. Enjoy, AppSpies! 1. Top selling iPhone and iPad game: Minecraft: Pocket Edition Possibly the least surprising winner on the list, Minecraft: Pocket Edition has sold much better than hot cakes since its launch back i…

If you want to see the first footage of The Banner Saga 2 in action, and hear quotes from the developer, check out the video above.…

Drop Assault is soon set to land on an iOS and Android device near you

Games Workshop has collaborated with Complex Games Inc. to release a mobile game set in Warhammer 40,000's Horus Heresy story. The result is Drop Assault, coming soon to iOS and Android. Drop Assault is a free-to-play tactical strategy game that promises to be a little pacier than traditional games in the genre. Set in the post-apocalyptic land of Isstvan III, you'll be choosing to join forces with either the Loyalists or the traitorous Horus. All of which probably won't mean much to someone who hasn't heard of Horus Heresy before. Everyone will be able to understand the multiplayer Skirmish mode, however, which pits you against one of your friends (or an enemy or stranger) to s…
