Offroad Legends 2 Review

Trials has a lot to answer for. Since the re-emergence of the popular 2.5D stunt racer there have been many similar games released to capitalise on its popularity. Offroad Legends took the Trials formula, swapped out the stunt bike for hefty 4x4 trucks, and added a few explosions for good measure. Now the sequel has arrived, and Pocket Gamer's Harry Slater has delivered his verdict. Check out of the video above to hear it.…

The 4 worst Fail Hard fails, and 4 best Fail Hard wins

The 4 worst Fail Hard fails, and 4 best Fail Hard wins

When you fail hard in Fail Hard, you fail hard. But the flipside of this is that any victories, demonstrations of skill, or general signs of competence are met with hushed reverence or whooping excitement. I think this is best demonstrated via these replays I've found on Everyplay. Let's start with the bad replays, the ones that make you think “hey, you actually might be a danger to yourself in real life if you're this bad at Fail Hard. That's a pretty terrible start... … but that's a worse start. You know you've messed up bad when you wind up in a bin... … and you've got to screw up real bad to break the game entirely. These last four are actually pretty…

Touch Racing 2 has had a silly amount of downloads on iOS, and it's now out on Android too

Touch Racing 2 has had 2 million downloads on iOS. That's a lot of downloads. Which is fair enough, because the game's pretty darn solid. There are loads of modes and tracks, tons of upgrades and cosmetic tweaks, and strong touch-based controls - all of which you can see in our hands-on video of an earlier iOS build. Fancy taking Touch Racing 2 out for a spin? Grab it via the links below the trailer. [App Store link][Google Play link]  …

The people behind Plunder Pirates hired a galleon, filled it with nerds, and had a #PlunderParty

The people behind Plunder Pirates hired a galleon, filled it with nerds, and had a #PlunderParty

New York Comic Con may be a hazy memory for some, with sepia-tinted scenes of meeting the stars of geekdom and hanging out with their fellow nerds. For some, the memories are probably even hazier. Like some of the Midoki lot, probably, as they threw a massive party at the event for their latest game Plunder Pirates, on a galleon bedecked in a jaunty pirate theme, no doubt replete with bass cannons. They captured some of this #PlunderParty on film and put it out there for all to see / be massively jealous they didn't get an invite. Plunder Pirates is out now, for free, on iOS. [App Store link]…

Shoot explosive fluffy creatures out of your crossbow in Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath out now on iOS

Shoot explosive fluffy creatures out of your crossbow in Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath out now on iOS

Possibly the most critically acclaimed yet least remembered title ever, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, has been ported to iOS. We'd consider it a strange move considering it was built from the ground up for consoles if it just didn't look so damn good. It's been remastered, you see, and the controls, which have been tweaked for touchscreens, are fully configureable. Oh, and you can also use any old iOS-compatible games controller you have lying around. What we've gathered from looking at the trailer below is that this could easily be the definitive version of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath yet, and it will be hitting Android "very soon". Head on over to the App Store to [download] it n…

4 Cut the Rope cakes you can make at home that will make you shout 'Om Nom nom' through mouthfuls of delicious baked loveliness

Om Nom is undoubtedly one of my favourite characters in gaming: the cute eyes, adorable mannerisms, and our shared love of eating sweets makes me want to reach into the game and give him a big hug whenever I fail him by managing to screw up a level. The fact that people on the Internet have decided to make cakes based on this hero of Cut the Rope fills me with joy, and I think it'll do the same for you too. So if you're feeling in a creative mood, you'll definitely want to check out the stellar work by superstar YouTubers CakesByChoppA, iHasCupquake, Abe's World, and cakezonepl below. Play The Witcher on iOS... in digital boardgame form

Play The Witcher on iOS... in digital boardgame form

It would be pretty unrealistic to expect CD Projekt's Red's exhaustively deep and visually fetching RPG The Witcher to appear on iOS in its original form. So, instead of trying to cram a massive third-person RPG onto mobile, the developer has decided to adapt another Witcher-flavoured property for touchscreens: The Witcher Adventure Game. It's out right now, so we suggest you take a look at the trailer above and see what you think. [App Store link]…

Apple's new 'Gamers' video - featuring Vainglory - gives me The Feels

Apple's new 'Gamers' video - featuring Vainglory - gives me The Feels

There's a brand new ad for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus talking about how it's got that fancy new chip in it, and how games will look better than ever on it. It highlights the rather wonderful looking Vainglory, as Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake get ever-deeper into the complexities of the new MOBA's gameplay, for comedic effect. And you know what? It's a very good advert. We do all sometimes get obsessed by the nuances of our games, and I love that mobile gaming has reached a point where they're complex, rich, and detailed enough that people can get obsessed by those nuances, whether it's Vainglory, or The Sailor's Dream, or Clash of Clans, or whatever else it is you love to take wi…

Tiny Realms update brings unit traits for each faction, we have the cheat sheet revealing all the details

Tiny Realms is, hands down, one of my favourite games of 2014 so far, and continues to be by far and away the best new strategy game on mobile. It's awesome, and part of its awesomeness is that it's continually evolving. The latest update brings with it specific traits for each unit of each faction in the game, further developing the already deep yet accessible strategy management gameplay. The Battlegrounds mode has also been further balanced, and inviting friends to play with you is a bit easier now too. We've just been sent a fresh gameplay video showing the traits off, focusing on the Steam Knights, Golems, Bear Cavalry, Mammoths, Bog Hunters, and the Shambling Mass. If you need more i…

Winter is coming to iOS next week with first episode of Game of Thrones: A Telltale Game Series

Only days after the leaked screenshots of Telltale's highly anticipated Game of Thrones series appeared online, the developer has revealed that the wait for the game is nearly over. In fact, the first episode of the interactive saga, title Iron from Ice, is due to hit iPhone and iPad within a week - on December 4th, to be precise. If you want to see what the six episode series looks like in action, check out the trailer above. …

Hands-on with Tiltagon, in which Super Hexagon meets Super Monkey Ball

Tiltagon has you tilting and twisting and turning your iOS device here, there, and everywhere. A curious mix of endless action and maze roller, the procedurally generated stages have you guiding a ball around a minimalist course trying to collect as many points as possible before falling to your doom. I was lucky enough to see Tiltagon at Pocket Gamer's Big Indie Pitch in Finland during Slush, and just had to nab a TestFlight build to show you lovely lot too. Take a look.…

Our Danny's G-Star 2014 adventure in Busan, South Korea

Every so often we send off superhero Community Manager Danny Russell on an adventure. Last time we sent him to try out some Monster Hunter-themed food and video his reactions. This time we sent him to Korea. Don't worry though, we sent him to the nice bit... y'know... in the South. Specifically we sent him to G-Star 2014, a huge event attended by tens of thousands of Korean gaming enthusiasts. We'll have coverage of the games he saw there here on AppSpy soon no doubt (and over on Pocket Gamer too), but for the time being we thought we'd bring you a collage of the sights and sounds from his trip to Busan, via the magic of social media. Danny sets off.   A photo posted by Danny…

The soundtrack for Image & Form's upcoming SteamWorld Heist has been written by actual robots, sort of

Do not be alarmed, AppSpies, the world isn't about to be taken over by steam-powered robots - more's the pity. In fact, Steam Powered Giraffe is a band who masquerade as robots and they've written the soundtrack to Image & Form's upcoming sequel to SteamWorld Dig, SteamWorld Heist - which is confirmed to be headed to mobiles and tablets. That means all the songs and in-game music you hear will be written by them. They even feature in the game as a troupe that protagonist robot Captain Piper will encounter in bars when recruiting steampunk-y fighters - the likeness is pretty uncanny. SteamWorld Heist is a sequel to SteamWorld Dig due out in spring 2015, and in i…
