Incandescence is a fast-paced rhythm game that's out right now on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone

In Incandescence you simply drum on the screen of your device with your fingers to keep to a rhythm. Doing so sets off a light show that becomes more and more intense the longer you can keep the beat. It's a curious one, sounding like a mix of Beatmania, FantaVision, and Rez. Here's the game in motion. Incandescence is free, and available right now on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. [App Store link][Google Play link][Windows Phone Store link]  …

Hands-on with Tilt To Live: Gauntlet's Revenge, the super challenging passive shmup

I've been a big fan of Tilt To Live for quite some time now, so I leapt at the chance to play an early build of this avoid-em-up from One Man Left. Tilt To Live: Gauntlet's Revenge takes the control precision of the previous games, and places your ship in a series of ever more difficult to navigate environments. Here's my hands-on.…

Want to play a game and help beat cancer at the same time? Get Reverse the Odds now!

Channel 4 has made a game called Reverse the Odds, and at first blush it looks like a colourful and breezy puzzler. It's got lovely 3D visuals, 350+ levels, and social stuff in there too. Oh yeah, and playing it will help you beat cancer, as the results from play are used by Cancer Research UK scientists. Here's a video explaining more... ... you know what to do. Hands-on with Hail to the King: Deathbat, the horrific Avenged Sevenfold mobile game

I wouldn't bother pressing play on that video below. Honestly. The video contains about ten minutes of footage of me playing Hail to the King: Deathbat, an almost entirely awful new action adventure game that's been developed in partnership with a band called Avenged Sevenfold. Think about all the things in life you could do with the extra ten minutes you'd save not watching it: you could put the laundry on and win brownie points with your partner, you could read a news website and be more aware of global events, or you could do a few push-ups to help maintain your health... ... … still here? Fine, hit play, but don't say I didn't warn you.…

Swap Heroes launch trailer is equal parts epic and adorable

In Swap Heroes you take a group of hroes and wade through level after level of turn-based combat with a puzzler twist: you swap members of your party to launch attacks. I love the pixel art and retro-inspired soundtrack on this trailer, and I think you will too, so take a look. It'll be available on iOS this week, and will cost you 99c / 69p.…

Hands-on with Tiki Taka Soccer, the thoroughly sensible game of soccer

So while I may not adore the actual sport of foot-to-ball, I have on occasion known to like a high quality video rendition of the pastime. Tiki Taka Soccer is definitely one of those games. With elements of classic footie video games, mixed up with modern game design sensibilities, this still-in-development title is looking very promising indeed.…

CreepStorm is an impressive looking tower defence game that'll be exclusive to Fire Tablets

CreepStorm may be a tower defence game, but its towers are a bit different to what you might expect: they're actually heroes - with their own stats and upgrades - that you can move around the playfield to conquer all foes that lie in wait. It's out of Happy Tuesday and Amazon Game Studios, and it'll only be available on Fire Tablets. Hopefully we'll bring you more on the game in the run up to release, but for now here's the trailer.…

Til Morning's Light features spooky puzzles, terrifying combat, and a haunted manor

Til Morning's Light is an upcoming exploration game, with puzzle and combat elements, and it's coming exclusively to the Fire Phone via Amazon Game Studios. The game is being co-developed with WayForward (Shantae, Mighty Switch Force, Contra 4), it'll apparently make use of the Fire Phone's Dynamic Perspective tech, and there's even a series of audio blog posts by the game's star over on Audible in support of its upcoming release. Here's the trailer, what do you think?…

Hands-on with The Silent Age: Chapter 2, the time-hopping point-and-click adventure

Hands-on with The Silent Age: Chapter 2, the time-hopping point-and-click adventure

The Silent Age came out of nowhere. Released without fanfare as a free download, the game caught us slightly off-guard by really rather good. The minimal presentation was strong, the time-travel hook delivered a few surprises, and the puzzles were smart. It's been a long time coming, but the sequel has just arrived as an in-app purchase. Mark Brown sees how the story continues in the video above.…
