RAGE HD Update Includes New Gameplay Episodes As IAPs

id Software's mutant shooting gallery game RAGE HD has just received an update, which includes new in-app purchases and improvements to the game's visuals and performance. As anyone who's read our 4/5 review will know, RAGE HD's visuals were already pretty special. Now that the player model and weapon models have been replaced with higher-resolution versions, though, it looks crisper than ever. The headline feature of this update, mind, is undoubtedly the new Mutant Bash Store. It's from this digital shop that you can now buy new game content via IAPs. The first such 'episode pack' is available to purchase now, with more on the way soon. Finally, if you've got the appropriate cables and…

Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space Ep 1 Review

Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space Ep 1 Review

There's an assumption at play here with Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space Ep 1 (otherwise known as Ice Station Santa): you need to have not already played it on any of the other platforms it has already been released on, which is no easy thing considering its initial PC release was in late 2007. However, hardcore Sam & Max fans; adventure game enthusiasts; and those not yet introduced to the whacky duo may still find themselves compelled to give this short and sweet title a run f…

Crazy Hedgy Review

A game based on rolling movement in which you play a hedgehog collecting shiny objects. Hmm. At least the hedgehog's not blue right? It's been a while since we here at AppSpy have played a rolling game controlled by tilting your iPhone. There's a tad more to it than just rolling however. The goal of each level is to reach the end, with bonuses if you satisfy a gem quota. The gems themselves, which are strewn around the level, are hidden in boxes and are held by enemies. They are the g…

Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land Review

Those who regularly play or have experienced Tabletop RPGs that go beyond basic dice-rolling, numbers and statistics will know just how quickly you can become absorbed in the world you're exploring. Some players may find themselves exploring the terrible and fascinating worlds inspired by H.P. Lovecraft and may even use scenarios devised by the boffins at Chaosium for the 'Call of Cthulhu' series. Now regular iOS gamers can do the same with The Wasted Land, developed by Red Wasp Design…

Vanessa Saint-Pierre Delacroix Review

Vanessa Saint-Pierre Delacroix and her nightmare. Man that's a mouthful isn't it? Still, a title like that certainly breeds curiosity. While the game itself may not be what one expects from the title, the tone certainly is. In a very well told intro we learn that Vanessa is a brainy puzzle loving young girl who feels ostracized from her peers at the schoolyard. One day a strange puzzle box that she acquired from her father's antiquities shop breaks and sucks the entire town inside it.…

Toy Shot™ Review

Sometimes all you need for a good game idea is to take an existing game type and add something new to it. Toy Shot takes the flinging physics fun found in such games as Angry Birds and Crush the Castle, wraps it up it up in LEGO blocks and gives you the most unique aiming system we've seen in one of these games yet. Does it make it stand out from the pack however? The aiming system is a bulls-eye, and when you drag your finger out from it, you create a circle with a line. This stays p…

Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World (Full) Review

Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World (Full) Review

Kaptain Brawe is a cop. A space cop! They do things differently in space, like spell captain with a K. Imagine taking control of Zap Brannigan, only instead of being a complete incompetent with a side kick that despises you, you have the added bonus of having some modicum of intelligence, but that's only because of the player actually doing the legwork in solving the puzzles. As adventure games go, this is what we would call a throwback to the adventures of the early 1990s. Well OK, i…

SupaSupa Games Brings Arcade Motocross Racing To iPhone

SupaSupa Games's debut iPhone release has just ridden onto the App Store. Yes, it really is called SupaSupaCross. Aforementioned game is a top-down arcade motocross racer with the emphasis firmly on fun rather than realism. In SupaSupaCross, you steer your bobble-headed racer across a series of off-road tracks, hitting the odd boost pad along the way to gain the edge over your competitors. You can choose between touch or tilt controls for steering, by the way. SupaSupa Games is an indie studio made up of former members of now-defunct THQ Digital Studio Phoenix - the team behind the MX vs. ATV series on home consoles. You can grab SupaSupaCross from the App Store right now for 99c.…

Paper Monsters Review

The recent release of Terra Noctis proved once more that not only are platformers still fun, but with the right tweaks they're perfect for iDevices. It seems that Crescent Moon Games and developer Robots vs Wizards were on the same wavelength when coming up with Paper Monsters, but instead of something akin to Yoshi's Island, this game channels simpler games of the era. This isn't the developer's first rodeo when it comes to platformers and you can see shades of their previous title D…

Desert Zombie Last Stand Review

Desert Zombie Last Stand Review

If there's one thing that is a constant in zombie games is that they don't have guns, and they don't shoot back. I mean the whole point of the explosion of zombie related video-gaming is that it's a way to satisfy a desire for wonton violence against something that looks human, but isn't. The fact that they hobble around and are ripe for the deadly end of a variety of firearms just adds to the appeal... so what happens when that changes? Desert Zombie Last Stand is kind of like the me…

NFL Kicker! Review

NFL Kicker! Review

The last time Full Fat dropped a game on to the App Store we were treated to a unique take on the sport as players focused their attention on the role of the quarterback. In continuing with their NFL licensed releases the developer has switched to kicking field goals, bringing it more in line with their previous titles. For those not already familiar with flick-based sports titles, the basic gameplay revolves around attempting to flick a ball (in this case an American football) in to…

Clay's Reverie Review

It's time to access the dictionary! Reverie means a dreamy meditation or fanciful musing, but you probably already knew that. The small puffy blob known as Clay must be dreaming, and he needs to reach the end of his dreams safely while collecting as many stars as possible. This game is a balance of two control schemes that can be seen to be fighting against each other. The level is constantly moving forward and you need to avoid all the obstacles. Clay is stuck on a horizontal bar tha…

Remedy’s Explosive Racer Death Rally Is Free For A Day

Remedy's explosive racing game Death Rally is free to download today. Death Rally is an updated version of Remedy's 1996 debut game, and has you driving for your life in the titular vehicular competition. Gaming veterans will spot some familiar faces amongst the caranage, too, with Duke Nukem, Barry Wheeler, and John Gore all making appearances in a game that promises more than ten hours of high-octane racing. We loved Death Rally's high-adrenaline gameplay, which has you outrunning and outgunning race rivals, awarding the game 4/5 in our review last year. Accelerate onto the App Store now to grab your free copy of Death Rally.…

Puzzlejuice Review

If you haven't reached a comfortable state of equilibrium with common arcade titles that feature gameplay elements such as color-matching, word-finding or block tessellating, then I can only assume you're a very VERY recent convert to the world of gaming. Don't worry, you'll join the fold soon enough and if you're interested in getting there even faster you can play Puzzlejuice because it combines all three. The best part is it caters to those with only a few seconds spare; those who…

As you explore the strange town of Scoggins, you'll be solving puzzles for the locals, investigating the mystery of the local eraser factory, and guffawing at the dialogue. We awarded Puzzle Agent a 4/5 in our agent evaluation. Err, I mean, review. Meanwhile, episodes 2 and 3 in the Hector series are currently a…
