See the debut trailer for Pacific Rim: The Mobile Game

The movie fans among you might be familiar with upcoming mechs-vs-monsters flick Pacific Rim. Helmed by Pans Labyrinth and Hellboy mastermind Guillermo del Toro, the film promises to marry the old fashioned sensibilities of the Godzilla movies with the mech-heavy iron fisticuffs of Gundam. Of course, nowadays you can't have a blockbuster film without the obligatory tie-in mobile game. And, sure enough, Reliance Games has just posted the trailer for Pacific Rim: The Mobile Game. It's only a teaser, and we're not sure how much of it (if any) is actual in-game footage. However, if we had to guess, we'd say that this is probably going to be a gesture controlled brawler in the vein of Batm…

World War Z Review

World War Z Review

World War Z is a conflicted game. On the one hand, its developer has tried to revamp the first-person shooter genre by creating a new control system tailor-made for touchscreen devices. But, while the controls may be progressive, the gameplay all too frequently lapses into uninspired - and frankly quite tedious - shoot and collect missions. It's not all bad news, though. In fact, World War Z's drab, grey surface betrays stabs or real colour and excitement. The game is probably at is s…

Chronoblade Announcement Trailer

Chronoblade Announcement Trailer

Watching the trailer for this upcoming game, thoughts of an action RPG meeting a side scrolling beat em up come to mind. At least part of this thought process is justified seeing that one of the creators of Chronoblade is Stieg Hedlund, one of the main designers behind Diablo II. He has teamed up with Dave Jones, one of the creators behind the original Grand Theft Auto, and Tony Harman, former president of Realtime Worlds. What they've come up with looks like a lot of fun. See for yourselves. This free to play release is about to go into beta, so we should have a release date sooner than later. We will let you know.…

Man of Steel Trailer

It's blockbuster season in the US. Every summer the film industry unleashes its ultimate popcorn movies, and of course that means videogame tie-ins - especially when it comes to superhero movies. Man of Steel has a trailer now, and it looks like the majority of this game will be spent pummeling badguys as Superman. Seeing Superman's dubious videogame history, we here at AppSpy are skeptical, but we hope for the best. Have a watch. The game is released on June 14th.…

Warhammer Quest iPad Review

If you can remember the days when games were played on tables, not tablets, then you might recall Game Workshop’s Warhammer Quest. Now, Rodeo Games has brought the dice and cardboard RPG into the digital realm, attempting to encapsulate the treasure-seeking, goblin mashing thrills of the boardgame in an iPhone and iPad app. The good news for all of us is that they’ve made a pretty good job of it. The first thing you’ll need is familiarise yourself with your character…

Skiing Fred Review

If one were to categorise videogame characters based on luck, Dedalord games' Fred would certainly be among those at the extreme bad end of the spectrum. Having survived videogames based on falling while avoiding hazardous ways to die, and running while avoiding hazardous ways to die, we now have Skiing Fred, who must ski down a mountain, while avoiding hazardous ways to die. This is another endless runner that's graduated from the Temple Run school of gameplay. You tilt the iPhone or…

Gameloft unveils first Modern Combat 5 trailer

Gameloft unveils first Modern Combat 5 trailer

Gameloft has just released the debut trailer for upcoming first-person shooter sequel Modern Combat 5. The teaser delivers almost exactly what you would expect a Modern Combat trailer to deliver. There are explosions, a veritable fleet of high-powered military vehicles, and enough flying bullets to make the geriatric cast of The Expendables nod creakily in approval. More specifically, the video hints at a set piece involving a helicopter mounted gun turret, and a high octane chase sequence featuring boats whooshing down a Venice canal. And guns. Did we mention the guns? Unfortunately, Gameloft hasn't seen fit to give us a release date. The developer has tagged the video as an 'E3 trailer…

Syberia out on iOS

Thanks to Microids and Big Fish Interactive, the PC adventure classic Syberia is out on iOS... kind of. Syberia Part 1 is released for free. The game is split into three parts, and each adventure can be unlocked through in-app purchase. The Syberia series is well regarded in adventure circles for its beauty, and intriguing narrative. Even in such a form, the game is easy to recommend for adventure fans. Have a look at the original PC trailer for an example of the weird and wonderful world the game presents for the player. HD overhaul for Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

Having just lifted the lid on its new iOS Deux Ex game, Square Enix has also delivered good news for Final Fantasy Tactics fans. It seems the Japanese developer decided that the visuals for Final Tantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions could do with spruce up, and has just given the game an HD graphical overhaul. Simply download the latest update, and your low resolution troops will be transformed into super-sharp soldiers of fortune. The update should also improve the draw speed of the visual, too. In non-aesthetic news, Cloud support has also been added, allowing you to access save files regardless of which iOS device you happen to have in your palm. What's more, Squeenix has slashed the…

Deux Ex: The Fall announced for iOS

Deux Ex: The Fall announced for iOS

Prepare for imminent iOS augmentation: Square Enix's next Deus Ex game is coming not to home consoles, but to iPhone and iPad. Entitled Deux Ex: The Fall, the game will be a fully-fledged first-person RPG action title, just like its console counterpart Deux Ex: Human Revolution. The game's plot revolves around the supply of the drug which augmented humans (like protagonist Ben Saxon) require to survive. This time out, Square Enix's mobile division has taken on development duties, with involvement from N-Fusion (the team behind Air Mail) and Eidos-Montreal. Rather than being a neutered version of the console title, executive game director at Eidos Montreal Jean-François Dugas …

ExZeus 2 Review

ExZeus 2 Review

If there's one thing you can't deny about ExZeus 2, it's the game's ambition. It sets out to create an action-packed mech shooting and fighting extravaganza by regularly switching-up its gameplay. One moment you're flying around the city blasting aircraft like a stage of Space Harrier, the next you're getting down and dirty at ground level in a 3D shoot-and-brawl section. You'll even find yourself in charge of a motorcycle attempting to avoid obstacles and take out enemies with your le…

Bloom Box Review

Bloom Box Review

When AppSpy first noted about the arrival of Bloom Box, we noted that the name was rather similar to the Wii game Boom Blox. The comparisons don't stop there however as both games are based around triggering chain reactions - something for which we gamers seem to have a soft spot. After all, it's undeniably satisfying to watch a successful chain of explosions (or in this case blossoming), especially when you've invested time and effort into the preparation. Bloom Box is about blooming…
