FPS Classic Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum C...
Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum, the updated port of id Software's 1992 FPS classic, is currently available as a free download from the App Store.
Playing as the suggestively named B.J. Blazkowicz, a captured US agent who's being held in Castle Wolfenstein, you simply have to escape alive. Yep, that's the objective, folks.
But, it won't be easy.
The Castle is crawling with nasty Nazi guards, vicious attack dogs, and terrifying undead supersoliders. Should you manage to fight your way past these horrors, you'll eventually have to battle robo-Hitler in a climactic boss battle.
All historically accurate, of course.
It may be a little long in the tooth (Wolfenstein celebrates its 20th anniv... Read More
Pandemic 2.5 Review
It's a strange thing, but some may know the meme, but not the game that was responsible for creating it - I am of course referring to Pandemic II by Dark Realm Studios. Even if you were half way around the world, Madagascar closed its borders if it heard you had a runny nose. The developer is back, this time in iOS form, to bring its infamous infection simulator to the masses, adding in a few tweaks to make it a worthwhile purchase for returning fans. Your task is simple - infect and ...
Top 3 iPhone Games for April 2012
April has been an odd month - not particularly bursting with amazing titles, but not short of highlights either. As such this month's list is far more personal than ever and I'll try to explain my choices as best I can. Was there something you went gaga for this April? Let us know down in the comments.
For now, this is AppSpy.com's Top 3 iPhone Games for April, 2012.
Max Payne Mobile (Rockstar Games) $2.99 Univ.
I accept that I seem to be in the minority in loving the iOS port of Rockstar Games' seminal third-person shooter, but its simplicity is what works in its favor, especially on a touch device. Clearing out rooms of enemies with a casual spray of a weap... Read More
Conceptis Fill-a-Pix Review
[Editor's Note: Apologies for the video being unavailable for so long - YouTube is currently updating their back end again and it seems some features are missing at this time. We've found a work-around for now and hope this won't be an issue again soon!] Earlier we reviewed Prismapix, a puzzle game where the player uses minesweeper-like clues to know what tiles are safe to uncover a picture on and which are not. That game was based on a simpler kind of logic puzzle, and that's exactly...
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Dragon-Punches Its Way On...
A port of arcade classic Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has been announced for the iPhone, and fighting fans don't have long to wait. The game will tag into the App Store on 25th April.
Boasting a cast of 56 playable characters - 28 from Marvel, 28 from Capcom - Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has you select a team of three fighters and throw down fisticuffs against three opponents.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is renowned for its nuanced tag team fighting system and breathless pace, so it'll be interesting to see how Capcom manage to cram this classic onto the iPhone, and how much control fidelity will be lost in the translation.
The developers have decent form in this department, though. Street Fighter IV Volt's contr... Read More
Friday News Wrap-Up 23 March 2012
It's that time of the week again and we here at AppSpy are busy busy busy trying to delve in to the pile of games that were recently released, so lets not keep everyone waiting and jump straight in to the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 23rd of March, 2012.
Bethesda Softworks Hiring for iOS
We can dump this news in to the rumor pile, but Zenimax, the parent company for Skyrim developer Bethesda has posted a job opportunity for someone with experience in the iOS development field. Considering the company has had rumors regarding an iOS product that dates way back to 2009 and their only real outing has been the official Skyrim map pack, it's hard to know if this is something ... Friday News Wrap-Up 9 March 2012
It seems like only four days ago I was covering the news of the week in the iOS world - ahhh how time flys! Silliness aside, this does spread things a little thin and in place of any missing news I've extended our mini-review this week a little bit to compensate - it's not much, but definitely deserving of the attention.
This is the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 9th of March, 2012.
Crytek Going Mobile
Developer Crytek has long been rumored to be bringing a version of their high-tech 3D CryEngine to the mobile platform, but they've been more tight-lipped about their intentions on bringing something playable to the table... that is until now. Unveiled at GDC, the... Read More
Prince of Persia® Classic Review
The original Prince of Persia by Jordan Mechner was a gaming classic, with its fluid animation, exotic setting and adventurous gameplay. The game was remade for the XBLA a few years ago, updating the graphics, adding more animations, and new modes along with achievements. That version was amazing and now has been ported to the iPhone. Can the touch screen deliver as wonderful an experience as a controller however? The answer sadly is no. Part of what made the original and the remake g...
Post-Friday News Wrap-Up 2 March 2012
A wild Post-Friday News Wrap-Up appears... whether or not it's effective probably depends on your type. Why a Monday news piece? Well I had the (mis)fortune of turning 30 this weekend and things kind of got out of hand a little earlier than expected. Needless to say this shouldn't be something that affects our viewers, so here I am with the Post-Friday News Wrap-Up for the 2nd of March, 2012.
Miku Flick... Otaku's Rejoice!
So if you happen to have missed out on the Vocaloid phenomena, don't feel too weirded out as it's not likely to have traveled most nerdy circles unless you have a local weeaboo or similar otaku friend to explain the majesty that is a synthesized pop-s... Read More
Dark Indie Platformer Limbo May Be Headed To ...
Independent developers Playdead are looking for a programmer to port their games to new platforms, prompting speculation from NowGamer that their acclaimed platformer Limbo may see an iPhone release.
Limbo was originally released in 2010 on the Xbox Live Arcade platform, and has since been ported to the PlayStation 3, PC, and Mac.
Playdead's job listing mentions that the studio are investigating new platforms for possible ports, including iOS.
Adored by critics and players alike, Limbo has you controlling a nameless boy exploring a threatening forest.
Its creepy atmosphere and stark art style ensured that Limbo stood out in a genre usually known for its primary colours and jaunty tone.

Friday News Wrap-Up 3 February 2012
For those who missed out on the tweets, I was on a personal holiday last week. To cover the time lost I had to queue up content, but the unfortunate side-effect of this is a huge pile of emails, upcoming releases and reviews to barrel my way through now I'm back in the office. I can't say I'm super disappointed though as this week was a real joy, but we'll get to that soon.
For now lets touch base with the news for our Friday Wrap-Up for the 3rd of February, 2012.
Team Meat + iOS == ???
You may need to throw this one on to the rumor pile, but in a recent interview with IndieGames.com, Super Meat Boy creators Team Meat mentioned that 'the next game will probab... Read More
Friday News Wrap-Up 13 January 2012
Apologies to our regular viewers - the holiday season is still catching up to me and with any luck we're back on track for consistent Friday features. Sadly I'm not going to cover the entire month I've missed, but there's more than enough news in just the last seven days, so lets jump right in.
This is the Friday News Wrap-Up for the 13th of January, 2012.
Nyrthos In Development for iOS
Kicking off the week is some surprising news as Nyrthos, a simply stunningly rendered 2D Action-RPG, takes its project to mobile devices. Not only will players be able to follow the journey of their character on a browser, they'll also be able to load up on their iOS device of choice to... Read More
Sonic CD Review
Lucky were those who owned a games console in the 90s - luckier still were those who had access to multiple consoles. However, at least growing up, it was rare indeed to find someone with a decked out Genesis complete with CD drive. As such Sonic CD was only ever enjoyed in bursts at retail stores and despite ports to other platforms, it was never quite a complete experience. Enter one Christian Whitehead, a proof of concept on the iPhone and after two years we now have access to the penultim...
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light Now Just...
Square Enix's iPhone port of Xbox Live Arcade title Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is now on sale, meaning you can grab the co-operative adventure game for just 99c.
Naturally, the game follows Tomb Raider protagonist Lara Croft - and her new partner Totec - as she attempts to nab a mysterious artefact called the Mirror of Smoke, and prevent the God of Darkness from controlling humanity.
We gave Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light an impressive 4/5 at review and noted that it "goes the extra distance with a challenging campaign and a fun co-op style for friends to enjoy".
Lara's adventure will return to $2.99 on November 14th, so we suggest you go and raid the App Store for it whil... Read More
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and San Andreas P...
You know how we - and probably you - got all kinds of excited, breathless, and anxious at the news that Grand Theft Auto III: 10th Anniversary Edition was being ported to iPhone?
Get ready for a similar emotional onslaught.
Digital Trend's Adam Rosenberg was lucky enough to be invited deep into Rockstar's New York lair earlier this week for a hands-on preview of said open-world crime adventure on iPhone and iPad.
In between running down pedestrians and admiring the character modelling, Rosenberg coaxed a tantalising admission out of one of the Rockstar reps:
And yes, since you're probably wondering: It would be a 'technical challenge' to deliver mobile ports of Vice City and San Andreas,... Read More
