Soul of Deva is a JRPG about a young girl killing demons to save humanity

Kemco has just announced that its new JRPG - Soul of Deva - made by Hit-Point is out now. Soul of Deva stars a young lady called Savior who has the power to fight back against the demon hordes that terrorise human villages. She's joined by a cast of rogues, gents, and even a friendly demon along the way. As usual, the standard price for the game will be $8.99 / £5.99, but the price in the launch window is discounted down to $3.99 / £2.49. [App Store link]…

Hands-on with Soul Historica, the Kemco JRPG with a whole lotta soul

Life is full of big decisions. Should you try to save your best friend from certain doom, or help re-unite two lovers in dire peril? Should you trust the establishment and keep quiet, or speak up for those that cannot speak for themselves? Should you buy Soul Historica, the latest JRPG from Kemco? Conundrums all, I'll try to help you answer at least one of them in the video below.…

Hands-on with Rusted Emeth, the JRPG where you fight giant monsters in huge mechs for cash and glory

Hands-on with Rusted Emeth, the JRPG where you fight giant monsters in huge mechs for cash and glory

After it was released on Android a month or two back, Rusted Emeth is now out on iOS. It's a cool concept for a JRPG: many people have become hunters who collect bounties after defeating massive creatures in battle using their Golems (heavily armoured mechs). The visuals are a little basic, but keep with Kemco's usual 16-bit aesthetic, and I'm really liking the fact that the controls are optimised for touchscreens, and aren't virtual sticks. I fired up Rusted Emeth so I could show you the opening moments, click play below to see them.…

Kemco's RPG Band of Monsters goes from $7.99 to free for a limited time on iOS and Android

We all like something for nothing, and Kemco is offering RPG fans with iOS and Android devices exactly that. One of their role playing games - Machine Knight - has just hit 1,000,000 downloads on Android, so to celebrate Kemco is giving away another of its RPGs for free. It's called Band of Monsters, and considering that the game is usually priced $7.99 / £5.49, this promotion represents quite the saving on this usually premium title. Not convinced by the trailer? All you need to know is that you'll be going on a long quest to tame monsters around the world, combining them with one another when caught to make all-new monsters, and using them to fight in classic JRPG-style battles.…

Hands-on with Fanatic Earth, the JRPG about alien plagues, fighting baddies, and saving ladies in exchange for fine dining

Hands-on with Fanatic Earth, the JRPG about alien plagues, fighting baddies, and saving ladies in exchange for fine dining

Kemco has just released Fanatic Earth onto the iOS and Android app stores, and here's the elevator pitch that got me excited for that happening; Xilleon City is the last remaining bastion of humanity, which has seen the majority of its population wiped out by an alien disease. You play as a man with probably The Best Hair Ever who is unfortunately suffering from a spot of amnesia, and pretty soon you find yourself in trouble with a gigantic (and undoubtedly evil) corporation called Cyphate. If the above synopsis, and the below video is something you reckon you'll want to invest a few dozen hours in, then you best go grab Fanatic Earth now, as it's currently celebrating its launch with a sa…

Kemco experiments with 3D in new RPG Alphadia Genesis

Kemco experiments with 3D in new RPG Alphadia Genesis

It can be easy to laugh at JRPG factory Kemco. It is easy to imagine teams of designers and writers gathered around a conveyor belt assembling an endless stream of cookie-cutter RPGs. However, with its latest release, Alphadia Genesis, the developer has stepped outside of its comfort zone by experimenting with 3D visuals. Given the JRPG genre's focus on menu-based combat, 3D visuals have never been a priority. However, while the over-world map and story play out in 2D, Alphadia Genesis's combat takes place in the third dimension. This adds a little drama to the turn-based battles, as bosses now tower over your fleshed out team of tiny fighters. The new visual effects are joined by a twist…

Retro JRPG Journey to Kreisia out now on iPhone and iPad

There is probably someone out there who tries to play all of the old-school JRPGs which appear on the App Store. Today, their task got a little harder, thanks to Kemco's latest retro release Journey to Kreisia. You'll probably be more than familiar with Journey to Kreisia's premise. The lead protagonist is Yusis, a high school boy who has been transported to the fantastical world of Kerisia. Declaring him 'Saviour from the Outer Realm', the people of the land believe the lad has been sent to destroy an overlord who is ressurected every 10 years. Yusis has to explore the game's 16-bit-inspired world, meeting NPC's and gathering party members before he faces the Overloard. On the way he…

New Kemco RPG Chrome Wolf offers quests, tragedy, and tanks

Japanese developer Kemco has released its latest JRPG adventure Chrome Wolf on the App Store today. Given Kemco's impressive back catalogue of retro role-playing games, we're stunned it still has any original names left in its fantasy game title sorting hat. Luckily, the latest rummage did manage to conjure up something new, even if the game's visuals and story are somewhat familiar.   As you can see from the trailer above, Chrome Wolf's 16-bit style closely resembles recent Kemco releases Chronus Arc and Destiny Fantasia. Here, however, each soldier's ability and weapon sets are defined by eight available classes, allowing for a range of approaches and tactics in battle. A tan…
