Logitech study: pro-gamer is the new top career choice
A major new global study from Logitech G confirms what many suspected: esports has moved beyond a niche hobby and is officially entering its prime, gaining significant cultural legitimacy and fueling major career ambitions worldwide.
The research, which surveyed 18,000 people across 12 countries, reveals a surprising career aspiration shift: nearly one in ten people globally (8%) would choose a professional gaming career if they could restart their working life.
This 8% figure places pro-gaming above established, traditional professions such as politician (6%), recruiter (6%), and even professional racer (5%). The ambition is strongest among the younger generation, with a whopping 15% of Gen Z expressing a desire to go pro, compared to 10% of Millennials. Only 3% of Boomers share this aspiration.

The cultural acceptance is clear: over half (54%) of global respondents now view pro-gaming as a "legitimate career path." This belief is particularly strong with Gen Z (67%) and in key markets like South Korea (82% support) and China (79%), underscoring a serious global movement.
Esports viewership now rivals, and in some cases surpasses, traditional sports. For instance, the 2024 League of Legends World Final attracted a peak global audience of 50 million. Live events are also massive, with stadiums selling out, evidenced by the 62,000 spectators at the 2025 Honor of Kings KPL Grand Finals in Beijing.
The industry's economic growth is explosive. Currently valued at $2.1 billion, the global esports audience is projected to reach 641 million by the end of 2025. Forecasts suggest the industry could leap to $7.5 billion by 2030.
As Derek Perez, Head of Gaming Communications at Logitech G, summarizes: "Esports has evolved into a global cultural force... Our research shows clear and growing recognition of competitive gaming as a legitimate profession."

So, the next time someone questions time spent on a console, remember you might be building a multi-billion dollar career—perhaps one that requires a new pro-grade tool, like the Logitech G PRO X2 SUPERSTRIKE mouse, to achieve professional goals.
