When it comes to Pokémon, I have never been a fan of shinies. I just don’t think that they look nice. Unfortunately for me, that is 50% of the theme for Pokémon TCG Pockets' next card set. The rest of the theme is Megas, Mega Shine to be precise, so we can all bring out our heavy hitters in high fashion.

First, let me just say this trailer is animated quite weirdly. The bit with the young character, very odd to me. Anyway, that was just a side note. The main event is, as per usual, the cards we get to see.

Or, in my case, don’t get to see. There is no sign of a Mega Lucario thus far.

Our two Shiny Megastars this set

What we do get is a look at two shiny Megas: Mega Gengar ex and Mega Charizard X ex. After all this time, are we not sick of Charizard yet? Either way, this Charizard is packing 220 HP and a rather accessible 3 energy move. Raging Blaze deals 100 attack, with an extra 80 if it is under 110 HP. I feel like this is a bit weak, and having it under 110 HP, with a Shiny knockout worth 3 points, isn't really worth the risk.

Mega Gengar ex, however, I do like the look of. Figuratively. The colour scheme doesn’t work for me; that's terrible for a shadow. Anyway, they come with Labyrinth of Shadows, a 4 energy move worth 120 damage. On top of this, it prevents your opponent from using a Trainer card from their hand.

I feel like this will be a very useful card if you can pull it early on. A decent way to mess with your foes' setup and deal damage at the same time. During the endgame, though, I am not sure if 120 damage is enough. I prefer it to Charizard, at the very least. Having said that, I do enjoy the idea of Charizard having a Final Fantasy Limit Break on low health; that's fun.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is available from the App Store and Google Play. Mega Shine will launch March 26th.
