I should be celebrating the announcement of Pulsing Aura, the upcoming expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket. Finally, my Pokechild, Mega Lucario ex, is being added. However, in a form of karmic retribution for my insults towards Pocket, he is utter rubbish.

Instead, when the release date hits April 28th, I shall be weeping.

Mega Lucario ex is a is a Stage 1 evolution with 190 HP, sporting the Fighting Pulse move. This takes two fighting energies to deal 90, with an extra fighting energy boosting that by an extra 50. On the other hand, the already released Lucario ex will deal 100 damage for three energy, whilst dealing 30 damage to a bench Pokemon.

To me, that is a more enticing option. 90 damage on turn 2 with Mega Lucario is nice, and makes them a decent early sweeper, but that 30 bench poke is a big tactical advantage. It is disappointing that a “Mega” doesn’t offer a huge pull over the original. Especially when they are my favorite! You were the chosen one!

Some other interesting cards redeem the set

At least the rest of the expansion has some decent cards. Korrina grants your Fighting Pokémon 30 extra damage against an Active ex for a turn. The Arena of Antiquity stadium gives a permanent 20 boost to the same, although this also extends to your opponents' Fighting Pokémon in play. Some excellent support for this type of deck.

If we pivot back to evolutions, Mega Sceptile ex can deal 130 damage for two Grass energy, and if you discard one of these, you also poison your foe. An excellent two-energy attack. Let’s finish off with the adorableness that is the Eeveelutions. Vaporeon ex can deal 80 damage for two water energy. However, if Vaporeon is in the active spot, its Ability lets you switch out your opponent’s Active Pokémon.

A nice little free disruption.
